Wow! Look at all that parking!
I liked it better then. But can’t undo over 100 years of changes.
The fact that there is an automobile would indicate a little later, but prior to 1916, when that building burned and was rebuilt into what we now know. And I’m sure the street was known then as McDonough, perhaps without the “North” at that time, because that’s an old route.
Also, I think it would more properly be referred to as the “Turn of the 20th Century”, but I will defer to grammarians on that.
Yes, of course. Wrote this post a bit too late in the evening!
Hmmm, the trees seem a lot smaller and fewer then… (perhaps more west of the Court House but the tree line beyond is bare.)
It must have been after 1908 because the confederate monument seems to be in the picture:

Good detective work.
Whatever year this was, it’s just dumbfounding to think about how far those poor people back then had to drive in those rickety cars for craft beer and overpriced oysters. On the other hand, at least they didn’t have to worry about school redistricting.
Actually, they had even MORE schools then. I believe there was a 2nd Ave school at some point and a Ponce School and I forget what all. White schools, black schools. Those were the days when kids TRULY walked to school.
No. They ambled or moseyed to school then.
Uphill in the snow. Both ways.
It needs a bike lane
or at least sharrows.
Unpaved Roadway?
Before my time to edit runs out, I want to add that this is one awesome picture!
Clearly the result of efforts to make a more horse-able community, at the expense of the yet-to-be-invented 18 wheeler!
With so few cars, where did drivers find gasoline?
They made it.
From what?
Grizzled, hardscrabble livin’.
