Chipotle Sign Goes Up
Decatur Metro | October 11, 2013
I’ve already received a couple of pics of this in the last 24 hours. Here’s one from Gwyneth that shows the new Chipotle sign up on the parking lot side of the Suntrust building at the Corner of West Ponce and Commerce Ave.

just added another hole to my belt
Not saying I am against Chipotle, but this will spell the end of Raging Burrito right?
Completely different animals AFAIC. Most importantly, I still crave RB fortnightly, whereas my craving for Chipotle died years ago.
No way! Raging Burrito is great for vegetarians and Chipolte is very much lacking in that department. In fact, I count Chipolte and Taqueria del Sol as two of the very few places that I can’t get a good meat-free meal.
The veggie taco at TDS is one of my favorite vegetarian items on the planet (and I’m not a vegetarian). Add some cheese dip and the George (off menu mix of charros beans, greens, and rice) and I’d be perfectly happy.
That said, there’s not a lot beyond that, so I could see how it would become tiresome for a vegetarian on a regular basis.
Yeah, if I’m going to be eating thirty cents of beans and cheese for protein, I want a whole lotta good, healthy (and/or interesting) veggies in my taco or burrito. Didn’t know about off-menu item– will try it, but it will be hard to get me away from the fabulous fillers at Raging Burrito.
For the record, the greens at TDS aren’t vegetarian, and I’m pretty sure that the charros beans aren’t either. So….
Chipotle lacking for vegetarians? I’m a meat eater, but usually order the veggie burrito because I prefer it.
Yep, ditto my last comment. If you aren’t going to have tofu or tempeh (and come on, even Willie’s and Moe’s have tofu– and of course our local Mellow Mushroom has both…) you gotta have some good veggies, or it isn’t a very satisfying meal out to me. Chipolte announced earlier this year that they would have tofu at some locations, and we’ve been to three since and haven’t seen it.
The tofu option is only currently available at California Chipotle locations, I think. They’re beta testing.
Chipotle doesn’t provide a plethora of choices for anyone. I maybe bitter. Last time i ate there, there was glass in my salad. I told the manager and they gave me a coupon for my next visit. I’ll pass. But great news for Decatur!
Either this is not the first time you’ve recounted this story on DM or Chipotle serves up a helluva lot of glass in their salads. Hoping the former.
Pretty sure i have mentioned it before, but i would stay clear of the lettuce just in case.
I hope this will not be the end of RB. It was a sad day when Tortillas was done in by the chains and would not like to see that repeated.
Same thing with Burrito Art. Killed by the chains.
Again, different vibes and different enough menu that I’m not that worried about it. Farm Burger has lines out the door even with a McDonald’s two blocks away. Different people looking for different stuff.
The lack of a patio would also seem to hamper Chipotle’s chance of stealing away that crowd from RB.
Gross.
Chipotle is pretty good. Tofu is gross.
Anyway, I’ll be opening a Chipoltaway store next door. I’d link to the supporting South Park clip, but it’ll get lost in comment limbo.
You can order items from Raging Burrito here, but Chipotle will charge you $3 for the convenience.
Keeping it Indie-Catur!!
I will trade Ruby Tuesday for a Chipotle any time. This place will do big jury duty business. Locals can still choose Raging.
Where’s all the outrage over a chain restaurant opening in the heart of Indie-catur?! Across the street from hometown favorite Taco Mac?
No worries. Decatur’s always been pro-local, which is not the same as anti-chain. We let the market decide.
+1
The false dichotomy is our most insidious (and maybe, most powerful) enemy.
“The false dichotomy is our most insidious (and maybe, most powerful) enemy.”
You sound like someone from outside of COD…Please STG, tell me you’re not one of the geographically-disadvantaged.
East Lake ftw.
She used to be ICOD–inside City of Decatur but recently moved. So she’s been on both sides of the false dichotomy.
It could be a defense: “Your Honor I was not trespassing. Their land was bordered by a FALSE dichotomy.”
I fled to Decatur many years ago, seeking to escape the tyranny of false dichotomies. It caught up, I de-camped again. Now I mostly try to live inside my head, it’s a simpler environment.
Why should there be? There’s already a McDonalds and a Starbucks. There is a market for it – people who work on the square who don’t have time or money for a sit down lunch or dinner will welcome a more affordable and fast option.
But Chipotle is anti-corporate
They buy happy cows, not the sad ones in the commercial, and their food is grown by a former factory worker.
Poked my head in this afternoon, was told target opening day is 10/22.
