Candler Park Market Says College Avenue Grocery Store Won’t Happen

Decatur Metro | October 4, 2013

From Dirk Botterbusch, managing partner of the Candler Park Market…

To all of our wonderful customers in the Oakhurst community:

We are disappointed that we will not be able to open another Candler Park Market style grocery store at the College & Mead location.  We are actively looking for alternative locations in your neighborhood to become a part of the Oakhurst community.

Although we were extremely excited about the prospect of bringing the Candler Park Market concept to Oakhurst, we have been unable to reach economic terms with the current property developers to make the project financially feasible.

We truly appreciate all of the well wishes from the Oakhurst community.  The palpable enthusiasm we felt from the neighborhood was not only humbling, but also inspirational.  We look forward to being a part of your community in the near future.

Thank you very much for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at the Candler Park Market!

Ughhh that sucks….now that the Imperial is almost done, that would of been the final piece of the puzzle for that property…

That’s a damn shame, but hopefully it means it will find an even better spot. Hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Would be nice to see Savi Urban Market set up shop there.

I was just going to post the same thing. Great idea, and it would be wise to get a jump on the development of the Avondale MARTA lot.

Who is the current owner of the property in question?

Pete Whitlock, I believe, who owns a good chunk of Oakhurst Village as well. He’s been investing / rehabbing here for a long time.

Diito on Candler Park Market moving past Decatur and heading straight for the Tudor Village area near Pallokaville and the new restaurant going into the old Thumbs Up space.

I thought the Pinewood was in the old Thumbs Ups space. Is that gone?

    Dear Candler Park Market,
Don’t believe those AE folks trying to steal you from us! We want you in Oakhurst!

I agree on East Decatur Station. You would get Avondale and Winnona Park! Unlike Oakhurst, Winnona has no markets close by!

Oakhurst folks need to give Danneman’s some love anyway.

Apparently you haven’t been there either. It’s not Danneman’s now.

Ha! It’s not even the market that replaced Danneman’s. It’s turned over one other time since then.

Sad to hear that spot won’t work – how about the corner of 2nd & Hosea? Walking distance to Oakhurst & Kirkwood, in the midst of East Lake, and the Community Learning Garden & E.L. Farm would be great partners.
