Sobban Opening Soon in Old Kitsch’n 155 Space

    Decatur Metro | August 27, 2013 | 1:58 pm

Eater Atlanta reports that the Heirloom Market BBQ founders are posting fast and furiously on their new Sobban Facebook page about the new restaurant opening up in the old Kitsch’n 155 space…

Tentatively on the menu are dishes like Korean kimchi pancakes with Southern seafood; crispy pork belly bo ssam with local lettuce and pickled vegetables; mini-bingsu, or shaved ice topped with fruits and nuts; hot teas, Korean-style beers, and other beverages; and kal guk soo, or knife-cut noodles about which the team says, “if you like ramen, you will love this dish.” Sobban means “a small wooden table reserved for humble meals.” There’s more on Facebook.

North Decatur Road Could Be Narrowed to Two Lanes

    Decatur Metro | August 27, 2013 | 10:52 am

Michael points out this AJC blurb from way back on Aug 5th...

‘Road diet’ considered for North Decatur Road

A “road diet” is one possibility under consideration for revamping North Decatur Road from Clairmont Road to Willivee Drive, which traverses both DeKalb County and Decatur.

On June 21, 2012 Jianchang Wu was killed by a car while crossing on foot at the Landover Drive intersection, and bicyclist Paul Taylor was killed by a truck near Willivee Drive April 30, 2012.

A “diet” for this heavily-traveled stretch (19,000 cars daily, though only those two fatalities) would include cutting North Decatur from four to two lanes, adding sidewalks and bikes lanes on each side.

    Bill Banks for the AJC

Also, the Medlock Area Neighborhood Association website reported this morning on preparations for a Road Safety Audit being conducted on North Decatur between Church and Clairmont, who’s recommendations COULD end up including “road diet measures, sidewalk improvements, additional crosswalks, and repaving N. Decatur.”

    Stay tuned.

    Pups Looking to Go Home

    Decatur Metro | August 27, 2013 | 10:37 am

    Two pups need our help…

    lab photo

    Jason writes in…

I’m trying to help find a home for this 1-2 year old white lab mix. He was found recently in Oakhurst on a friend’s front porch. He wasn’t wearing a collar and has no ID chip, so no luck in finding where he came from. The vet checked him out and found no problems. He seems to be a very sweet, very healthy, house trained dog who needs a new home in a hurry.

    Thanks!

    found puppy

    Haqiqa writes in…

We found a lost lab mix puppy on Saturday on Kings Hwy in Decatur. We can’t keep him much longer. Would love to find the owner and if not the owner, someone to foster or adopt ASAP. Can you help? I’m attaching a picture (his legs in the pic look very short but he is a normal sized puppy – about 5 or 6 months old).

Burglary in Great Lakes Neighborhood on Sunday Afternoon

    Decatur Metro | August 26, 2013 | 11:10 am

Brad posted a comment about this yesterday.  Here’s the report from Decatur Police…

On 08/25/13 between 12:15 pm and 3:15 pm, there was a burglary in the 100 block of Superior Avenue. Entry was made by breaking a Plexiglas pane in the front door. A laptop, iPod, cell phone, purses, backpacks, jewelry boxes/chest and cash were stolen. Some of the items were recovered near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Superior Avenue. A witness reported hearing a noise in the intersection around 2:00 pm and seeing a jewelry chest had fallen from an unknown vehicle.

Leon’s and No. 246 Featured in A.C.O.D. Trailer

    Decatur Metro | August 23, 2013 | 9:39 am

You all may recall the movie A.C.O.D. (aka “Adult Children of Divorce”) filming in Decatur a while back.

I recall reading it had trouble gaining a distributor, but it’s now finally about to be released and if the trailer is any indication, there should be a good bit of Decatur featured as the backdrop.
