Why make decisions yourself when you can just have the Internet do it for you?
I mean, all you have to do is throw a bunch of different options up on a website. What could be easier? No need to even account for standardization across selections. The democratic process will sort it all out! Right?
Uh oh, what’s this?
Georgians will get a second shot at voting for the design of a new license plate after state officials on Friday acknowledged miscommunication over whether “In God We Trust” would appear on the new tag.
…The Department of Revenue on Thursday released the three plate designs that received the most online votes, all of them featuring IGWT. This led [Revenue Commissioner Doug] MacGinnitie to determine that the confusion might have skewed the results.
…The commissioner also said his office will try and prevent voters from casting more than one ballot. Commenters on websites on both sides of the issue — urging votes for or against plates with IGWT — bragged about casting multiple votes.
Voting will begin again next week.

I’ve been a big fan of on-line surveys as a speedy, efficient way to get community input but I have to admit they still require intelligent design. Poor format will get poor feedback.
Can I have “In evolution I trust” on my license plate.
+1 … nice inclusion of ‘require intelligent design’
oh Jesu*************
*heavy sigh*
In my personal opinion, democracy has no place in design decisions. That being said, there are ways to solicit and obtain meaningful, representative feedback from the public about something like this. The way they did it — and are presumably are about to re-do it — is not among them.
The classic example of bureaucratic inefficiency and institutionalized laziness is the road crew with 2-3 guys wielding shovels and 10 more standing around. In my opinion, this kind of thing is much more galling (and probably costs the taxpayer more, overall).
Well said.
I thought the “In God We Trust” on the plates was just part of the mockup. I wondered why the wording wasn’t the same on all the samples, however. I figured it was because different people prepared the samples.
It’s like all those gotcha questions on Sesame Street. š
IGWT to be replaced by
“Touched by His noodly appendage”
Be sure to vote early and vote often.
Freaking hilarious. I was going to post the same exact thing!

Only a complete dum-dum wouldn’t have thought about the fact that the “In God We Trust” sticker where the county sticker usually goes would be optional and dependent on the user’s choice. I laughed when I saw so many folks posting messages urging people to vote for ONLY the designs displaying the IGWT. There again, the IGWT message shouldn’t have been included on the mockups used for voting. A smell a conspiracy….LOL
Why was no one paying attention when people were asking this weeks ago? Christ.
I didn’t see the poll, but IMO, they’ve already spent too much time and money on this process. The ridiculous number and variety of plates has always annoyed me. If you have a cause you’d like to support, why not send them a check for $20 and get a bumper sticker if you really wznt everyone around you to know you “like” something.
My vote is for a plain b&w plate with the number on it – if they’re going to insist I have one at all.
At least we still have a chance to get the one with the horses’s butt peach.
I thought the code said the county has to be visible on the plates that have a space for it, but if it’s been repealed, I’d like to start making stickers and take off the “Dekalb” off my plates!
HAHA the irony – someone posting as APSDecatur begins with “Only a complete dum-dum …”
There were 8 original design options and the top 3 after “the vote” were the only 3 that had In God We Trust along the bottom.
Was this a successful voting campaign or does the outcome reflect what people want?
