DHS teacher Chris Billingsley sends in a bunch of pics from Saturday’s Decatur Education Foundation RunDecatur 5k and writes…

Dozier Howard was more than the brother of former state senator Pierre Howard and great grandson of Governor Howard (Howard Ave.). He may have been the best pure shooter on the 1970 DHS state championship basketball team. Also pictured are Stephanie-Stuckey-Benfield, Mayor Bill Floyd, Commissioner Jim Baskett, Mr. DHS Clarence Strictland (head maintenanceDHS), Famous DHS Coaches Brad Pitt and Iris Gibbons, Famous DHS Teacher Kris Hellerstein, DEF Director Gail Rothman, CoD Rec Director Greg White, and several Close Up students. More than 40 students participated in this Close Up Club service project.

    Thanks for posting DM! It was an amazing event with more than 1900 people registered for the 1 mile and 5K and about 20 for the Tot Trot (the 4 and under set). The rain held off and the community came together for a great time and to raise money to support the children in our community. Thanks Decatur for a great event!

    “Famous DHS Coaches Brad Pitt…” Really?! Brad Pitt was there?
    I saw Brad jones, but not Coach Brad Pitt. Always nice to see Dozier…Great event. Lots of smiles and energy from those school kid runners. (more so at the start than the finish)

      Well DHS Coach Brad Jones LOOKS like Brad Pitt, so that’s why Mr. B was confused.

      I “ran” and came in ALMOST last, but it was a very pleasant day, and the rain held off until I finished running.
