There seems to be activity in the Little Azio space and the Atlanta Bread Company space…anyone know anything or hear any rumors?

I thought the Little Azio was known about, or at least rumored, regarding Thai/Sushi as per previous post.

Walking around last night, I thought the same thing about ABC, how the “for lease” sign is down now, and lights on. No idea.

The property is in “special serving” for current or imminent loan default.

What radio station interferes with AM recption at College and Sams Crossing? At the intersection yesterday, no matter what station I put on, I could hear Jingo by Santana as well as the station I had tuned in.

      • Wally says:
        February 26, 2010 at 4:52 pm

The interference comes from a small AM station licensed to Decatur at 1310AM.
Power is reduced from 2500 watts in the daytime to 31 watts at night, so most of the interference comes in the daytime. Follow the link for info and a map that will show you the tower is in a wired off section of the MARTA station parking lot and has been for the 20 years I’ve lived here. http://www.radio-locator.com/info/WPBC-AM

The Decatur High School boys basketball team takes on Chattooga High School in the first round of the state AA basketball tournament tonight. Game time is 6:30 and booster club passes are not valid for state tournaments. Admission is $7.

The Decatur High School Boys lacrosse team plays Grady at 5:30 at DHS in the first game of the Inside the Perimeter Tournament hosted by DHS. If we beat Grady we play Saturday at 3. Our girls lacrosse team won last night and will play again on Saturday at 1. Admission is $7/adult and $5/child.

Come out and support the BULLDOGS tonight!

Yes it is. She wasn’t clear about that.

Just another reminder – signup for the Tour Decatur before Monday for the lower, $20 adult entry fee. After Monday it goes up to $25 per adult. This is a cool event for Decatur and a great fundraiser for the Decatur Educational Foundation. I know a lot of kids around Decatur’s schools have been participating in after school “track club” activities and training to get ready for the 1 mile fun run, which is another reason this is such a great idea – helping our kids get the experience and habits of this kind of exercise.

I just signed up my entire family online at their website, it took less than 5 minutes.

This is our first time filing out our homestead exemption in Decatur. Just fill out your name, address, and zip code? Really, that’s all that is needed? The DeKalb one asks for all sorts of things, so I want to make sure I am doing this right.

Oh for crying out loud. The Decatur tree house enforcement squad are out in full force. Gotta get architectural plans, a survey and a permit for all those (previously built) tree houses or… or the city will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

REALLY? Is this what my tax dollars are being spent (wasted) on?

I’m just glad I’m not a kid these days.

Sometimes you find a little grey in what someone else calls black and white. I am curious what the city code says about tree houses or do tree houses fall into a broader category? Maybe you can just call it a “temporary structure.”

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_house

Also, I would find out how many people people were following the rules and getting the necessary paperwork and permits for tree houses and other like structures. I am not an attorney but it might be one of those things the city has a hard time enforcing, if most of the tree houses built in the city were never permitted in the first place.

Look for yourself. Here’s the complete City code online:

Just wondering what 6 Decatur and 1 Agnes Scott police cars were doing blazing down East Lake Dr with their blue lights on at around 8.15am this morning.

        February 26, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I’m not quite sure, but they possibly were on their way to MrFixIt’s tree house inspection.

        • MrFixIt says:
          February 26, 2010 at 2:16 pm

          LOL

Actually, we don’t have a tree house. We had to tell the kids that we can’t afford the architectural design and survey fees. They looked puzzled.

However, I’m sure it must have something to do with a newly discovered tree house somewhere in Oakhurst. We just can’t have clandestine tree houses in a fine city such as hours. It’s a hazard to society.

            February 26, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Permits for treehouses and yet properties can fall down next to your house and the city won’t do anything about putting pressure on absentee land owners. Only in Decatur…

Yep, and they let something like that mess on Midway Road happen.. you know… forest turned mudpit… but come after tree houses. It makes no sense.

While patronizing a business just outside Decatur’s city limits this afternoon, I overheard a conversation between a TV reporter and the owner of said business.

The reporter asked the business owner to comment on the political turmoil in DeKalb County. The business owner obliged, but repeatedly expressed worry that criticizing county officials on camera might result in county officials seeking retribution against his business via permitting or inspections processes.

I don’t know for sure if the man’s fears are realistic or not, but my inclination is to think they are. There’s much to like about DeKalb County, but the emotional maturity of its politicians isn’t one of them. After all, it was not too long ago a losing candidate public office assassinated the man who beat him.

I hope that if local business owners feel that they’re being targeted for any political reason that they speak up – contact the journalists, bloggers, customers. Hell, hire a lawyer. The best way to stop abuses of political power is to fight it.

Carry on. Nothing to see here.

The Friends f the Decatur Library are hosting a book sale this Saturday from 9 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. There is lots of good stuff with most things priced at $4.00 or less.

Where’s a good place to get something framed? I’ve got a couple of nice pieces that need some special attention.

      • DECATURKJ says:
        February 26, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Rose Squared. J.D.– I believe that’s his name– has a remarkable (and unbelievably fast) eye for what will best compliment your piece. He’s framed several portraits of our kids, and some other random prints I’ve picked up over the years, and I’ve always been thrilled.

The framing shop in the Publix strip mall at Clairemont and North Decatur Road is really excellent. These people are very professional and know what they are doing. I have had several pieces framed there, and they have always done a wonderful job.

I totally second this recommendation. The shop is called “The Great Frame Up”. The people who work there all have excellent artistic eyes, and are very helpful in making recommendations that will fit your price range. They also give out Frequent Framer Cards, which add up pretty quickly to discounts.

A trivial question: Does anyone know what is up with Button Cakes cupcakes and Taste? The last 4 times we’ve tried to get cupcakes, they’ve either been completely sold out or (aggravatingly) on display in the case but not for sale because they’re a day or more old. We LOVE these cupcakes. Just wish we could get some.

        February 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Button Cakes moved out of town a few months ago. Taste now gets cupcakes from the Cookie Studio, but it doesn’t seem to be a consistent delivery. I know that a few days ago Steve had gluten-free cupcakes in the case that I believe he’d made himself.

I need some heavy duty yard work done. I would like to turn a weedy patch into a flower bed so it will need clearing (maybe a Bobcat kind of job)and deep tilling which is more than I can do.
Can anyone recommend a local company or even an industrious teenager with the right tools?
