We Made It!
Decatur Metro | May 30, 2009 | 8:12 pmWell, the move to a new server wasn’t as painless as I had hoped, but ultimately it could have been much worse, so overall I am quite pleased.
I’m currently using a updated version of the old blog “theme”, just to make the transition a little less painful for both you and me. I actually like it quite a bit. But there’s still a lot of work to do…apparently I’m going to have to rebuild the entire “Links” section again, but it’ll be totally worth it. This new setup will give me a lot more flexibility with the site and allow me to offer a lot more fun and helpful features. For example, I’ve already added a “Top 5 commentaters” list to the sidebar, (congrats to the other four top DM addicts)
One minor hiccup is that while all the comments from the old site followed us over here, it doesn’t look like the “threading” formatting did…so some threads are a bit out of order now. Also, the comment count off the main page is a bit hinky for old posts. I’ll continue to fix these as I have time.
Lots more to come (I gotta figure out this picture header obviously), but for now hopefully the new layout will suffice to the site going strong while I make improvements in the background. Cheers!
Paula was good enough to point out that I had the “must register to comment” button still checked off under options. I’ve remedied the situation so everyone should be able to go back to their old commenting ways.
Sorry for any confusion!
Looks Great! If you had problems AND got it done that fast, I’m impressed.
Good job !
Looks great, DM!
Looks great. Good job DM. Quick, too.
Echoing reactions already posted–I dig the new look. Loving the blue.
Thanks everyone!
dh, the problems were minimal ultimately, but every time I hit a snag I panicked, since my knowledge is relatively limited. Last thing I wanted was the site to be down for days!
Great job — it has that ‘new car’ smell!
Great new look for a wonderful blog…
Nicely done DM….very smooth transition & you were worried.
I’ve done at least a couple of dozen of similar moves, and something always seems to go wrong no matter how experienced you are at it.
Congratulations on your move, DM o’mine. When I checked a couple times over the weekend, I experienced a bit of deja vu from my own website content maintenance days: pages not sized correctly to the screen and your right hand column inaccessible (no bottom scroll bar). But, now all looks very grand. Enjoy!
