    335's Plastic Bag Art

    Decatur Metro | February 24, 2009 | 10:55 am

    plastic-bag-art

Carl is capturing the unique plastic bag art that’s being mysteriously displayed between the 335 condos and Melrose on Ponce the last couple weeks.  The bags are placed over 335’s ever-running underground garage vent, which inflates them and jerks them around.

Here’s Carl’s video of the plastic pup that shows you what I’m talking about.  Its actually sort of creepy when you catch it out of the corner of your eye walking down Ponce.

Also, click here to see last week’s Dancing Chicken (as documented by “justguessing”).  That thing is straight out of a Dr. Suess book.  Kinda reminds me of a demented “Sneetch“.

I saw a video of a similar “installation” over a New York City subway sidewalk grate a couple of years ago. The animal would only inflate when a train passed and it would completely freak out passersby. Clever stuff.

I think that video is actually of an elephant. The large ears and trunk are my clues.

Isn’t that an elephant in the video? I noticed it when I walked by at the weekend – and have to admit to not realizing what was holding it up (please; no comments about the zombies arriving early for the film shoot).

I hung around while a girl walked her dog past the elephant/puppy, but I was a little disappointed by the (real) dog’s lack of reaction!

Of course its an elephant. I’m a bit dense on occasion. :-)

This artist is becoming well known and his work continues to improve. He has also done a sweet, HUGE arm/hand and a house among other things. I always look forward to his newest works.

Here’s the artist! He’s got a blog and if you scroll through his recent posts you can see how he came up with the idea of inflatable street art.
