Women in the Pulpit
Decatur Metro | November 24, 2008 | 3:27 pmRus forwards this AJC article regarding the recent tension between Decatur First Baptist and the Georgia Southern Baptists over female pastor Julie Pennington-Russell.
A check of the timestamp confirms this article was written yesterday, and not a half-century ago as first suspected.
Is it just me or is this blog getting to be increasingly political?
OK, OK. I’ll tone down the post. On further review I don’t want to start any sort of battle over religion.
And no…I think it’s always had hints of the political DEM.
I don’t get it, DEM. What’s political? (Or are you speaking in a more general way that includes church / organizational politics?)
I altered the post Scott. Originally it stated my disbelief that these sorts of arguments were still going on.
I don’t think it’s political to not understand why this sort of thing still goes on. I didn’t read the original (unaltered) post, but I agree on that point. Also, I don’t think Metro should have to tone down his own posts. It’s his blog, right?
Since religion and politics are the two big cocktail party discussion taboos, putting both in a single post demonstrates maximized efficiency! Throw in that it’s Southern Baptists, and we can even add some ranklin’ regional stereotypes to the mix.
DM, you may have finally stumbled upon something with the stuff to generate more comments than 315 W Ponce! I say go for it!
OK, I put the comment back in the original post. I gotta stand by the stuff I post, right?
Enjoy my snarky quip.
Let me clear that I don’t think the posts should be edited to be inoffensive or anything, and frankly, this is not an issue that I care about one way or the other. I wasn’t seeking any sort of editing, but just commenting on the selection of issues. (I meant political in a very broad sense.)
dem, just so you know I never took your original comment as a “please edit”. It was more my own wariness than anything else.
In terms of issue selection, posts are predominantly selected because they occur in and around Decatur. As was the case here. In fact, I would say that its more Decatur focused than it once was.
