    315 Official Meeting Report

    Decatur Metro | November 24, 2008 | 9:40 am

Better late than never, right?  (Yeah, that’s not really the case when it comes to blogs, is it? Unless you’re one of those new age “slow bloggers”. )

David mentioned something about the 315 Meeting Report a few days back and I realized I had never seen it (let alone posted it).

But all we needed to do was look.  Its over on the Livable Growth website available for all to view.  And I bet you can guess the main concerns without me even telling you, since we’ve all batted them around for almost a year:  density, shared parking and the quality of the construction.

Is this Senor Whites report or just the meeting minutes cause that’s how it reads.

How much did the city pay for this again?

Oh, and divide and conquer is one of the oldest tactics in the book.

David may or may not be right about a divide and conquer strategy but it should be tempered by the reality that a property owner attempting to exercise their legal options does not constitute an act of war.

If we’ve reached the point of war, the suggestion that the developer is the “aggressor” is ludicrous. If we need a fall guy, it is our own inaction in demanding an appropriate code overlay for certain transitional parcels that would, gasp, align a developer exercising their options with results we’re actually comfortable with.

Oh, but that leaves us without a boogey man. So let’s go back to blaming the developer or the city. That’s a lot easier.

This is a contentious little town, isn’t it? Thank you for posting the link, DM.

It’s always been my position that if the developer wants to proceed without government help vis a vis the zoning laws let the bulldozers roll.

They are not the enemy. But this is business. Entities in business will always try to gain the advantage to maximize their profits. To expect otherwise is foolish.

If they can convince gov to help them so much the better.
However, if this is what they expect to use to justify their decision to give the developer what they want I think it was a waste of time.
      And money.

Oh and a gracious tip of the top hat to DM. Moderator par excellence. Here’s toast of St. Bernardus straight from the Brick Store to you sir or mam.
