    S. Columbia/E. College Construction

    Decatur Metro | October 30, 2008 | 11:20 am

A note from CSD Mom this morning asking about construction at the intersection of South Columbia and East College is the fourth I’ve received over the past 4 or 5 months, so I thought I should throw it up on the board with an answer.

Unfortunately its not the most detailed answer.  I believe I was told its a 2-story office building.  I think.

Perhaps the city could dig up the details for us when they have a free moment?  Or a resident could scurry on down to city hall and look at their permit and then report back to us!

While you’re on new to College Ave. things, what’s coming in next to 5th Earl?

They split up the former Metro Catering space into two spaces. From notes on the door, it looks like the one next to 5th Earl will be another caterer. The one on the right is still up for lease.

Some have heard it was going to be a bakery Crazy Joe (best name ever btw).

A couple months back I got word of something similar but the financing for it fell through. So, long story short…I don’t know.

The Space Next to the 5th Earl is Going to be………. Yep you guessed it another caterer who feels like paying for retail space. I believe they are called Horn of Pleanty. All i know is that the operate a lil cafe in a govt. office bldg., but now plan to run their catering operation out of a retail space on E. College. There will be no storefront presence or excitement there.

WAY TO GO BRUCE NICE PICK.

The AJC has a note about this site today…

“Build now in Decatur, sell later

Who says speculative construction is dead?

Columbia Decatur Equity Investments is building a 13,822-square-foot building near Agnes Scott College in Decatur. The building, at 421 East College Ave., will not be completed until the spring but it’s for sale for $2.9 million.”
