First Hints of a 315 West Ponce Development Backlash
Decatur Metro | January 2, 2008As I suspected back in early November, neighbors living around the Wachovia building at 315 West Ponce are beginning to voice concerns with Atlanta-based Day Capital Partners’ plans to build apartments, a restaurant and boutique hotel on the site’s massive parking lot.
In an email to InDecatur, area resident Duane P. Truex worries that the project will not provide enough adequate parking for the amenities it provides and he expresses concern about the 80′ height limit. Also according to David over at InDecatur, he’s planning on setting up a neighborhood meeting soon.
Remind anyone of the fight over the yet-unbuilt condo on Hillyer that spawned the Old Decatur Historic District? It will be interesting to see how this scenario plays out in a post-”failed Oakhurst Historic District” world. Stay tuned.
Oh the trials and tribulations of living in a burgeoning city.
UPDATE: David is nice enough to provide us with an update with a date and time for the meeting…see the comments.
Rec’d another e-mail from Cherie Long, saying the meeting will be at 7:30PM tomorrow (1/3) in the 3rd floor conference room at Decatur First Baptist.
It’s primarily for neighbors, but I suspect anyone interested is welcome.
Apparently, another neighborhood group has already had several meetings about this. This meeting will be learn all that is known and focus all efforts.
