Final Decatur Bike Map Now Available
Decatur Metro | March 29, 2012 | 10:03 am
The Decatur Active Living department and the Bike Decatur advocacy group have finalized the new bike map for Decatur, which color-codes the city’s streets based on their respective conditions for cycling. Green = “best conditions for cycling”, yellow = “medium conditions for cycling” and red = “most difficult conditions”. Also included are other items cyclists might be interested in like drinking fountains, bike lanes, challenging intersections, bike shops and bike parking.
You can download and print out the PDF version HERE, or pick up a copy at one of many Decatur businesses in coming days.
The maps are really nice and a lot of thanks has to go to the Bike Decatur folks and Decatur Active Living for making it happen. The map design was a volunteer effort by local cyclists and we spent a lot of time on it. Special thanks to Jeff McMichael for creating the maps (he’s a cartographer for MARTA) and to the Decatur Craft Beer Festival for a grant to help with the printing. We have plenty of the maps here at Bicycle South; feel free to stop by and pick one up.
College Ave. is the most popular road in town with urban cyclists and it’s half-yellow, half-red? Really? Really. Just because the PATH exists on the north side of the tracks doesn’t mean it’s the only way through town for cyclists.
Does any business in the area do daily or weekly bike rentals? Just wondering.
I believe Decatur Bikes on Ponce (next to Sawicki’s) does.
thanks. I’ll check that out.
