Rooster on the Loose
Decatur Metro | March 30, 2010Giving new meaning to the term “free-range”.
David writes in…
Missing a rooster? Riding my bike to work today, I stumbled upon a black rooster on the sidewalk. Corner of Commerce and East College Avenue at the green railroad bridge. It ran off into the shrubs by street entrance to the newer homes located there.
I wonder if this is the same fowl as was reported by Robert on Twitter yesterday…
Saw #DecaturGA police officer chasing a chicken down railroad tracks outside Ice House Lofts about 12p today. The chicken was winning
Probably a refugee from chicken-hating Dunwoody.
My wife got a good picture of him as she was leaving for work. He’s a good looking one!
Pic above! Thanks Rodney!
We now know which side of town tilts towards Mayberry.
Why isn’t that rooster on a leash?
WHY did the rooster cross the road???
To steal the mail?
I just posted a notice to the citychickens yahoo group, so if the owners see it maybe they will lay claim. I think there are some folks over near Columbia Seminary who have had a rooster from time to time, so I’m wondering if he’s related to them.
Dressed in black, runnin’ from the law. If he were mine, I’d name him Billy Jack. (Good thing he isn’t mine.)
There won’t be any roosters crowin’
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after….
One tin soldier rides away.
Did you come up with that by yourself, or look it up? (I’m continually dismayed, myself, by the detritus of popular culture that has lodged in my brain. Like the complete lyrics of the Gilligan’s Island theme song–old and new.)
I know. All the things I wish I could remember, but what do I have? Copacabana. Every word. Start to finish.
Good thing he isn’t yours, either, Scott. =)
Cock au vin?
Do we know if this rooster is somehow related to the mail theft issue?
WARNING !!WARNING!! WARNING!!
Make sure you keep your children and pets safely off of the streets and please don’t leave your house unarmed. Lord know chickens are known for mauling people and that is why in Roswell you can have 4 100 lbs. PITBULLS roaming anywhere on your fenced property but your 3-6 chickens must be secured in a cage at least 50 feet from your property line.
I can see the headlines in the Roswell Beacon now “Child Mauled by Henrietta The Hen, Roswell City Council Says “WE TOLD YOU SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN”
Isn’t this a great story!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA, LITTLE PIGGIES AND ROOSTERS!!
The Roswell Chickennman
I love it when “law and order” and “rooster” are on the same thread! Only in Mayb… I mean Decatur!
Bomb scares! Gas leaks! Roosters running loose! It’s the end of the world (as we know it).
And I feel fine
Someone give that bird a Chick-O-Stick!
Out in the burbs, they got wild turkeys living amongst them. Why can’t we have a wild rooster? I think that DM summed it up the best with his “free-range” comment. Lets get a petition going to save the rooster from Decatur Police officers & Animal Control!
Maybe we can compete with the City of Fitzgerald, Ga for the title of “Wild Chicken Capital” Very beautiful birds roam their streets and they have an annual festival. Check this: http://www.wildchickenfestival.com
Here you go! http://www.DecaturRoosterFestival.com.
there’s something simultaneously stupid and noble about a wandering chicken. hope a coyote doesn’t get him.
Or Hootie the Owl!
I love the visual of a police officer holding a Krispsy Kreme donut in one hand trying to chase a pretty smart rooster down. That would make a great U-Tube Video
If anyone catches that handsome guy please let me know. I will give him a great safe forever home in Roswell Ga with the rest of my birds.
Let’s start a SAFE THE ROOSTER MOVEMENT IN DECATUR!!
Please support GA HOUSE BILL 842 that will allow for families to raise food, crops and animals for their own use.
