Decatur Box Project – Owl Art At Glenlake Park Entrance Reminds Us of Our Old Friend “Hooty”

Diane sends along these pics of the latest Decatur Signal box being decorated at the Glenlake Park entrance as part of resident Larry Holland’s Decatur Box Project.
She ran into artist Krista Jones decorating this signal box over the weekend and recounted the story of “Hooty” – the owl the DM community helped save back in 2009 after local resident Chris Billingsley sent in a pic of the injured owl near this location at the side of the road. Diane and I saw Hooty off when he was released back into the wild at Decatur Cemetery a month after his accident. (One of the cooler things the DM community has done collectively, I must say. )
Regardless of whether it was intentional or not, it’s nice to now have this reminder of good ol’ Hooty near the spot where he was rescued all those years ago. Thanks Krista! And thanks Decatur Box Project!
