Paul Simon Has the Flu

Decatur Metro | February 8, 2013

Lynne points to this note on Emory’s website…

The highly anticipated Richard Ellmann Lectures in Modern Literature by Paul Simon, set for Feb. 10-12 at Emory University, have been postponed due to illness. Simon’s representatives report he has the flu.

Emory anticipates being able to reschedule the lectures at a later time, to be announced. People interested in attending the Ellmann Lectures will have to re-register for complimentary tickets when the new dates are announced. Owing to scheduling uncertainties at this time, existing tickets will not be honored for the new dates.

The latest information and updates will be available at: http://www.emory.edu/ellmann

Accident Closes North Decatur Road at Lullwater in Both Directions

Decatur Metro | August 22, 2012

Kathy writes in…

We just got an Emory-wide email saying that N. Decatur Rd. was shut down in both directions at the Lullwater traffic circle due to a traffic accident. The email came in around noon, but traffic was even more backed up than usual around 10am. A work colleague said that she had seen numerous emergency vehicles there way earlier than when the email was sent. So, I’m just wondering if anyone has more first-hand information about what is going on at that intersection. Of course, I couldn’t find any information on any other online source.

Paul Simon To Give 2013 Ellman Lectures at Emory

Decatur Metro | May 4, 2012

From Emory’s website…

Paul Simon, whose lyrics have graced several generations worldwide, will give the 2013 Richard Ellmann Lectures in Modern Literature at Emory University Feb. 10-12.

The selection of Simon, “a consummate songwriter,” to deliver the lectures, aims to “slightly open up the concept of what literature is,” says Joseph Skibell, associate professor of English and creative writing at Emory and director of the lectures. The international selection committee discussed song as a part of world literature, and agreed that Simon was the obvious first choice.

…The Ellmann Lectures consist of a series of public lectures that are ticketed but free and open to the public. Tickets will be available near the end of the university’s fall semester. Simon’s lectures will concern, in part, an overview of the historical antecedents of the music made between 1966 and 1970.
