Steel City Pops Opens Decatur Location This Saturday

Steel City Pops has announced that their new Decatur location – and production facility – along Church Street – the first in GA – will open this Saturday, September 20th.  Here’s the release…

Birmingham, AL-based artisanal pop company Steel City Pops has announced a new retail space to open at 312 Church Stree in Decatur. The shop will feature Steel City’s signature handmade frozen pops, locally sourced and made with all natural ingredients.

Steel City Pops opened their first shop in Birmingham, AL in May of 2012. They strive to make gourmet frozen pops with the freshest, all-natural ingredients. When possible, they source their ingredients locally by connecting with food artisans and farmers in the area. Their desire is to represent the very best that a region has to offer and share those unique culinary experiences from one region to another among all the Steel City Pops locations. They currently have 19 shops in three different states.

Turn It Up! The Oakhurst Porchfest Spotify Playlist – 2017

Do you love Oakhurst Porchfest so much that you wish you could take it with you everywhere?

Or maybe you’re the “lists and planning” type, who leaves nothing to chance and wishes you could to learn more about the 200+ band options available to you (an embarrassment of riches!) before you hit the pavement on Saturday, October 14th.

Well, we here at Porchfest HQ have been working on a bit of a treat for you.

We’ve combed through all the artists and bands scheduled to play this year’s event and cultivated a roughly 2 1/2 hour Spotify playlist to whet your appetite and showcase a sampling of our artist slate.

We think it turned out pretty rockin’.

Listen to it below, or better yet CLICK HERE and listen, save and shuffle it directly in the Spotify app.

Happy listening!

Pine LakeFest Is Back the Weekend of Oct 7-8

Here are all the details for the annual Pine LakeFest coming up in October.  If you’ve never been to Pine Lake, I would definitely recommend checking it out.  It’s one of the most unique neighborhoods inside outside the Perimeter…

Pine LakeFest–two days of art, live music, food and family fun—is held each October, on the shores of beautiful Pine Lake, Georgia. Pine Lake is located between Decatur and Stone Mountain, 4620 Lakeshore Drive, Pine Lake 30072. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 8. Admission and parking are free.

This festival brings together some of the region’s most talented artists and artisans, for a marketplace offering fine handmade art and crafts. Eight Decatur artists are among those featured at LakeFest this year. Jennifer Montgomery (aka Jen Monty) creates whimsical mixed-media sculptures at Jen Monty Studios in Decatur. Ruby Bock recently retired from careers as an art teacher and garden designer; her mixed-media pieces reflect her interest in garden design. Heather Muse of “Musefire Art” is a woodworker, and Luz Wright is a photographer who lived in five different countries before making Decatur her home.

Leslie Deveaux-Christian, owner of “Natural Chic” and Gretchen Wyatt-Scott of “Ronita Designs,” specialize in handmade apparel. Phil Ross, owner of the Ross Candle Company, will be a health and wellness vendor.

The DeKalb History Center, Quantum Mechanics and Signarama of Decatur are three of the generous sponsors that have made LakeFest 2017 possible.

Activities at LakeFest include live music, chalk art and sand sculpture contests on the beach, a tour of the lake and park, and a wild water parade, “Floatzilla!” Leased pets are welcome; owners and pets may join a pet parade led by the “Seed and Feed Marching Abominables.” A complete schedule is available at www.pinelakefest.com
