  1. Is it too early to ask for turkey recommendations? Free-range, organic – for last Thanksgiving in Decatur with kids and grands!

  2. Anyone have a Ravenclaw robe for a child or a black graduation/choir robe they’re willing to part with for Halloween?

  3. I’ve got two Decatur Craft Beer Festival tickets for sale. $102.50 (cost)

Email dave at little shop of stories. (no spaces)

  7. Well, this will hopefully be my last post as “Decatur” and I will soon be “Metro.” Listed our house on Monday and open house this weekend. Another revenue positive childless household likely to be replaced by a McMansion with three or four kids. Don’t let anyone tell you the city’s tone deafness and hamhandedness isn’t causing people to do this. So, if you know anyone looking for a $375K “starter house” or teardown, send them to Garden Lane!

    1. Saw your listing a few days ago, J_T. $375K seems really low for a Garden Lane place.

    2. where are you moving too? I was a postal Decatur resident (Midway woods) for 8 years and moved up to Northern DeKalb this past August. I guess I am still a metro.

      1. We won’t know until ourselves until our current house sells. It’ll be close but not in the COD taxing kingdom.

    3. I’m 2 years behind you on this. Decatur schools better start planning for some sizeable enrollment increases soon.

    4. Your listing showed up on my FB. Good luck! We -and our BGE 🙂 bailed in May after many more years than you, are in Clairmont Heights and very happy.

      1. Thanks! We were only in this house for 5 years but I’ve lived in City of Decatur for much of my 22 years in Georgia. Seen many changes and looking forward to the next chapter.

  8. I have seen all of those wedding dance videos on Facebook, but I am in a family where no one knows how to dance. With my daughter’s wedding approaching in 6-8 months, where can we go for some father-daughter and mother-son dance lessons, or something like that? Thanks for any info or referrals.

  9. Can anyone recommend a small appliance maintenance/repair place? My kitchen-aid mixer is making a bad noise and I’m hoping she can be saved.

    1. Yes. Call Marni Bender at Thrive on McDonough across from the high school. I am not a touchy-feely person and was very skeptical but she changed our lives for the better. Good luck.

  10. Are the hours shown on the Beer Festival website correct? Noon till 4 pm. The closing time has always been 5 pm before. That’s one way to reduce the amount of beer that people will drink, but not a deal for $52.

  11. The government continues to be patronizing, all the while going ahead with their plans unabated despite protests. These include installing inferior streetlights, as well as poor road design. It is being noted by me & others.

  12. This sounds like it was in Winnona Park. I don’t know who was involved and hope they don’t sue each other.

      1. Winnona. My K daughter plays with this little girl (Lucy) most Friday afternoons on the Winnona Park playground (while my daughter is in her aftercare there).

      2. Sounds like Loonieville to me. What the heck? This is not how we treat each other in Winnona.

        1. Speaking of Winnona, what’s up with the yard signs saying “No School Parking”? Since when do individuals get to restrict parking on city streets? Seems un-neighborly to me. Especially since the school has been there forever. Everybody knew they were buying a house near a school.

          1. If you are referring to the signs at the corner of Bucher and Avery. Those are kind of a special situation and were placed there at the request of the elementary school. If someone parks there, the buses can’t make the turn to the school.

          2. My understanding is that the school offered those signs to the homeowners there.
Between the car drop off line and people parking to walk their kids into the school, that intersection (and Avery street in general) can be quite difficult.

          3. Smith,

I purchased the signs and asked the neighbors in the Avery/Bucher area to place them in their yards so that tight intersection can remain passable for busses, trucks, emergency vehicles, and cars. I also want to make sure that the neighbors can enter and exit their driveways safely.

We’ve had a few gridlock situations in the past caused by an excessive number of cars parked there during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. We’ve also communicated to WP parents to park elsewhere if they are parking then walking up to the school.

This is not a case of WP residents trying to enforce a “No Parking Zone” in front of their houses. It’s just a visual reminder to WP parents to park a few blocks away so the school and neighborhood can continue to co-exist safely and peacefully.

Let me know if you have any questions.

            Principal, Winnona Park Elem.

            1. For what it’s worth I’m pretty sure (I looked it up) under State law it’s a violation to park within 30 feet of a stop sign and within 20 feet of a intersection, crosswalk or hydrant so signs or not, folks shouldn’t be parking there anyway. I know it’s done all the time but just sayin’.

    1. The inevitable result of the “it takes a village” and “if you seem something, say something” mindsets.

  13. Hi all,
Anyone know what is going on with the days-long torrent of water being piped down to Oakview from the dead end side of McKoy?
