Someone mentioned these in FFAF last week and I happened to pass by this morning, so I figured I’d snap a pic and share the love.
You all know how much we like organic solutions to community issues around here!

Wow. We could use these on Scott Blvd. Even at a light with a crosswalk signal, drivers on Scott look indignant if they have to wait for pedestrians before they turn left or right.
They have these in areas outside Seattle and I LOVED the idea. So excited to see this instituted here. Still, I wouldn’t be too reliant on being seen even with the flag… I’d still be super cautious entering any road in this area that’s famous for pedestrian-blind drivers.
They have them in Salt Lake City as well. Pretty neat.
Taming the Plat of Zion.
Used them today. Still had to make sure the cars stopped of course (and one car didn’t) but I felt MUCH more visible. Thank you to the organizers!
Flags were used in Athens, GA, in front of The Grit on Prince Ave. for much of the last year. So many flags were stolen/disappeared that the remainder have now been removed. Lots of anecdotal evidence that drivers often still didn’t see pedestrians.
The yellow signs on Howard are overkill. And aren’t they technically litter if not on private property?
The signs are DON’T kill. I drive Howard all the time and try to be cautious but even I need reminders to be looking out for pedestrians in that area – I missed seeing a crosswalk waiting person yesterday:(. I’m glad my neighbors have invested their efforts to keep us all safer.
Frankly they are an eyesore but also a reminder that most drivers do not obey the speed limit of 35 mph and stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk. Maybe when people start respecting those laws we can start concerning ourselves over litter.
Let’s hope the pedestrians crossing the street will be reminded of ‘Look Twice Before Crossing’. Laws do not beat physics. It is not that hard to be a part of things. Walk behind the car, not in front. Slow down when there are people ahead. Every form of movement in the road. Besides, it is just plan common sense & courtesy that should be instilled into one’s philosophy of life since a kid. I am surprised that more pedestrians are not hit the way they just step out into the street without regard for anything, but themselves~ Wait, not even that!~ while cars barrel along just as unaware. Wake up & become situational aware! It is not that hard to be interactive with one’s environment. Of course, the road design has exasperated all these problems…
