I have eaten at Grindhouse it was very good and was fairly priced.
Had a good dinner at Grindhouse last night, and I think that upstairs patio may be my new favorite outdoor dining spot.
Seconded. The prospect of a damn fine burger and some decent beers was enough to get me in the door but the 21 and over sky deck’s what’ll get me back a second time. Great vibe, cool breeze and, of course, grown ups only as far as the eye can see.
Thanks Nick. I was opposed to this business opening up so close to the high school and the McDonough Street sign, that glorifies gun violence and demeans women, confirms for me that this was a poor decision. If you want Decatur to look more like Potterville, well then spend your money at Grind Burger. The Billingsley bucks will be used at Chick-fil-A and other family friendly establishments.
Well, that escalated quickly.
Hmm. The skirt and hose are only risqué by 1940s standards so I’m ok with that. I suppose the pose is sexist but it’s nothing compared to what’s on social media. I don’t love the gun and blood splatter. Kind of an appetite killer. The fact that the alcohol is all upstairs is probably a good thing in terms of kids sneaking in. But I agree that a porch full of loud, tipsy adults isn’t the best influence to be across from a high school that’s had an uptick in alcohol and drug use–luckily, at 3:30 PM, most of those adults are hopefully still at work (or drinking silently while they telework on the porch).
And the artwork inside does tend to objectify robots
I don’t normally agree with ChrisB, but I’m really not a fan of the sexy lady sign. Especially right across from DHS.
“The fact that the alcohol is all upstairs…”
Whoa whoa whoa . . . I know the upstairs deck is 21+, but can you not order a beer with dinner while dining downstairs? There is a bar with tap handles in the middle of the room. This is critical information for me, since they have Tropicalia on draft, but I also have a kid.
Not to be prudish, but I also just hate that sign. The sexy violence thing is just too much for me in this guns everywhere glorification campaign that is going on in society right now. I was shocked when I saw the sign. I guess I felt a little better when I saw it was already their logo and not designed just for the spot across from he high school. Ha! But I guess the results are the same. On the upside my high schooler also thinks it’s not cool… so there is that.
Please, nobody tell Mr. B about the interwebz and the pornz all over it that the kidz can see!
Also, I can’t figure out exactly what his problem with this place is…

For one thing, their motto.
My high school son hasn’t given one thought to the sign or the name (I asked). He just cared that a burger place was opening.
And it actually depicts the woman as a strong character. I thought that was good?
As best I can tell, here’s how it shakes out: Strong woman, good. Sultry murderess, bad. Homage to pulp cinema, good. Well executed homage, bad. Clever double entendre, good. Sexy double entendre, bad.
Ah, I see. Man, it’s hard keeping up!
As my kids say to me, “Dad, we go to public school, we’ve seen it all.” Not sure the sign or art will scar many of our kids for life. Now, objectifying robots, that’s just wrong.
Break out of the box and put a sexy cow on the sign. They’re using a stereotype to make money. just one that is
a bit more expected and socially acceptable.
That entire area near the high school is a moral cesspit. I don’t like how Chick fil A mocks and demeans cows, who in reality can spell perfectly fine. Also, the new style Dairy Queen sign now has the ‘D’ and ‘Q’ touching, which is just plain inappropriate. I guess we will have to live with THAT sick filth when it reopens too?!
Don’t get me started on the Calloway building, the architectural version of the “free candy” van: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/n1CsHQ-69Mk/hqdefault.jpg
An architect friend once told me that there wasn’t a single thing in that building that met code.
If anything, he was downplaying the situation and not exaggerating it. I’m pretty sure that the reason the elevators were glassed in was so that you could actually see when it broke.
“Won’t someone please think of the children?!?!”
Crap. I was just gonna start vaping.
I think we need to be much more concerned with GG Allin so close by in Inman Park.
Only if he’s been resurrected. Years ago a group of us were going to start a GG cover band called Poochucker, however, none of his songs were worth it.
We had a great dinner on the upper deck – what a wonderful space! We love having a child-free zone that is also non-smoking and allows us to have an adult beverage, but bring your sunglasses!
Second the fans of Grindhouse’s rooftop patio–it’s fabulous! Their turkey burger is delish, and a much more manageable size than most “boutique” burger places make (their prices are really reasonable, too). Those fried pickles = addictive…the child-free atmosphere is the cherry on this awesome cake! We’ll return often.
