Hardcopy Porchfest Maps Available Starting Tomorrow Afternoon Around Oakhurst
Decatur Metro | October 15, 2015 | 3:07 pm
Oakhurst Porchfest is only 3 days away (Sunday Oct 18th, 2-6pm) and the hum of the event is beginning to build around the city and online.
Local celebs are getting out the word. Local TV outlets are gassing up their trucks and sending out crews. Curbed is excited about “Georgia’s Largest Organic Shindig”.
Now, one of the beautiful things about this event will be that it can be experienced in a myriad of very unique ways.
Want to see as many bands as humanly possible in 4 hours? Strap on your bike or scooter helmet and hit the streets (at a very slow, reasonable speed of course) and head towards the melodies.
Want to experience Porchfest with a small group of neighbors in more of a “Block Party” setting? Look for the tightest clusters of participating porches on the map and then gleefully plant yourself in a lawn chair for the afternoon.
Already told 10 different musician friends you’ll “Definitely be dropping by.” to hear them and figuring out how to make that happen? You’re probably looking to do a little prep work. Get over to the website right now and start mapping out your route.
But say, you want to take in Porchfest casually, hitting a few specific porches but also just seeing where the music takes you over the course of the day – well, we now have you covered as well.
We’ve already introduced you to the highly interactive Google Maps version of the Porchfest map. It’s pretty intuitive and works quite well on desktop or a smartphone. So bookmarking that page on your phone before hitting the pavement is a very valid option for many.
But for those that want the tactile feel of paper in their hands and easy pocket access – or you just smartly avoid smartphones at all costs – hardcopies of the lovely map above – designed by our good friends at Lampe-Farley – have been printed for your convenience and are being distributed to a number Oakhurst businesses tomorrow afternoon. Not only does the map include porch locations, but also one-line summaries of all 130+ music acts.
So swing by any number of your favorite local haunts in the next couple of days and snag one. I’ve heard you’re very likely to find them at U-Joint, Oakhurst Market, Ale Yeah, the Imperial and Wahoo! Wine and Provisions for starters. You also can print your own copy using this PDF.
3 days to go!
P.S. Make sure to check back to DM tomorrow. We’ll be providing a dedicated open thread for porch hosts, bands and neighboring residents to advertise the various events and activities and goods they be offering in conjunction with the event.

Renfroe is shown on the wrong side of Kings Hwy (it’s actually on the east side).

It’s a test to weed out the tourists.
