Paper Plane is Closing, But Something Else is Coming?

Aloha, Gang. We have an announcement to make over this airplane intercom thing. As many of you know, Paper Plane has stopped food service this month. And at the end of August, after two-and-a-half years, we will stop all service. Paper Plane is taking its last flight, soaring off into the Decatur sunset. Which is to say, you should come by and enjoy our award-winning drinks and lovely staff while you can. You only have until the end of the month! Many of you have asked what’s going to replace Paper Plane. We’re happy to report that Wal-Mart will set up a small store in that space. Perfect for the Decatur-ite looking for guns, bullets, lawn chairs, half-off Christmas gear—really, anything. Of course, we are kidding. Put down your protest signs. We’ve got something even more (coco)nuts than that. See you soon, and until then, Mahalo, Y’all!

I’m so sad about this! I love this place so much. Will the new place be by the same owner?
Major bummer. That was probably our favorite place in the city.
Hopefully whatever they’re teasing will be just as awesome!
That sucks. We loved the place.
Ah, the mysteries of the food service business – a popular and seemingly successful place shuts down with no apparent reason.
Coconuts? I predict a tiki bar!
Like John Stewart, leave on a high note? Wondering if they are just refreshing the theme to keep thing exciting?
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon a company party of theirs in a new space in the westside complex where Ormsby’s is. I forgot what the name was but it looks like they’re getting ready to open a bar over there.
Yes, they are. Some of paper plane’s furnishings will be moved to the new place.
I will be slightly less sad if indeed it is Hawaiian fare and Ahi Poke would be offered. But what special place Paper Plane is/was.
I wonder if it competed too much (too similar) to Kimball House?
So disappointing. This is my favorite spot in Decatur.
Does anyone know what is happening in the space next to Big Peach Running Co?
Trinity is moving across the street. Is that what you’re referencing? Next to Big Boss.
CNN killed the place by referring to it as the “dive bar” that Norman Reedus went to after an Eddie’s Attic show.
Talked to an employee there Friday night. It will be the same staff, same owners, just a different concept (tropical maybe). Will still be cocktail driven.
Not. Cool.
I have never been so ambivalently non-plussed. They was good eats and drinks but too expensive for what it was. Guess I just wasn’t hip enough to “get it”. I’m sure the new concept will equally unfaze me while totally exciting my with it, full-on foodie, craft cocktail quaffing friends. Unless they bring back the Grog Shop. Then I’d be so in…
Meh. Place was too small, food too expensive and in no-man’s-land somewhere between fancy and not. Drinks were really good, but lots of place’s drinks are. I don’t think the presumptive tiki bar is going to be all that much more popular, will it? Maybe they’ll open the new place to everyone, not just members and non-members.
I only ate one meal here and it was exquisite. Cocktail too. The rest of the time, there were no seats and I had the sneaky feeling that it had to do with our general lack of coolness. I expect the same with the next iteration.
