    Slide the City Volunteers Still Needed; Will Receive One Free Slide

    Decatur Metro | July 16, 2015 | 3:46 pm

    slidethecity2

    After it was originally announced that Decatur’s Slide the City event was sold out, a new round of tickets became available.

    Looking at the Slide the City website, that round still hasn’t sold out apparently, so if you thought you would miss out on getting to slide down West Ponce in a fit of screams and laughter, you’re back in the game!  Single slides (with no tube) go for $25 a piece, while triple slide (tube provided) tickets are $45 a piece.

    But wait, here’s a potentially even better deal.

    The Decatur Business Association still needs volunteers for the following times at the event

    * Friday, July 24 from 2pm-7:30pm
    * Saturday, July 25 from 9:30pm -1:30am

    The City’s Casie Yoder tells me that when you volunteer, you get one free slide down the giant water slide along with a t-shirt and snacks. Also, when you register as a DBA volunteer, it helps raise money for the DBA (Slide the City pays per DBA volunteer).

    Interested?

    Click here and select the volunteer option at the bottom of the page.  Then follow the prompts to select your time, give your info, etc.

      Are there any plans to subsidize any disadvantaged kids?

        I have no doubt that the good progressive citizens of Decatur will take it upon themselves to fund slide rides for the disadvantaged.

        I know free tickets to the Beach Party used to be distributed to DHA families. Since this is also a DBA event, I would think the same would be true (but I don’t know this for a fact)

      CSD is going to have to drop $120,000 in the “Tree Bank”. Boy oh boy.

        If you can wait until the morning I’ll put that in MM and you won’t have to threadjack.

          Sorry, dude. Dang.

            Apologies. Didn’t mean to come off so harsh.

              Eh, probably doesn’t come across as harsh as I took it last night. 🙂

                So much room there for dirty jokes… 🙂

        I thought the city had the ability to grant a waiver.

      if they grant a waiver my non-profit who can’t afford recompense and as such has agreed to plant 22 trees for our project that was (IMHO) a much a bigger community benefit will be 2nd in line (behind CSD) for a waiver.

        Sorry, but your argument doesn’t hold much water. First, CSD is funded by taxpayers, and your non-profit isn’t. Secondly, although I am sure you provide a great community service, I doubt the benefit you provide comes anywhere close to a school.

      So is this waterslide event a one-time-only thing, on July 25?

        Yep. Though after a few hours at Brick Store, I might be persuaded to bring my slip-n-slide downtown later that night.
