A Closer Look at Proposed Improvements to Hidden Cove Park

    Decatur Metro | June 18, 2015 | 10:16 am

    hiddencove

As we noted earlier this week, one of the items in Decatur’s published – but not yet approved – draft of its 10-Year Capital Improvement Plan is $250,000 in improvements to Hidden Cove Park in 2018-2021.

A reader asked for more info about what those potential upgrades would look like.  We inquired with the city, who pointed us to the Hidden Cove Park Master Plan, and noted “Exact specifics haven’t been determined yet but some of the proposed improvements in the master plan would be the goal.”

So let’s take a quick look at those improvements.  They include…

    • Creating a total of 9 Pedestrian Entrances
    • New bridge crossings
    • Garden plots
    • Composting stations
    • Outdoor classroom
    • Pedestrian Signage
    • Bioswale Gardens

Click on the map above to enlarge it for the full plan.

This plan looks great- I wish this project would get prioritized sooner rather 2018-2021.

This is timely given the reopening of Westchester Elementary which borders the park and is a major point of entry for those who live east of Scott.

It would be helpful if the creek were cleaned up as well…trash as well as trash/invasive vegetation.
Plus, the current park is full of poison ivy.
