I enjoyed the Pop Up Market. Great beer deal from 3 Taverns and bargain rice bowls from Makan, but six bucks for a cold supermarket hot dog on a supermarket bun? Oy.

As I was leaving the pop up I found what is probably a charm from a bracelet that features a coin from Pakistan. It’s cool and I imagine its owner might miss it. If, by some chance, the owner of the charm gets the message and would like it back, DM can put you in touch with me.

The event was great – a perfect way to spend a Thursday evening – among friends and neighbors. Thanks to the organizers.

Most likely from one of the Black Sheep Ensemble belly dancers’ costumes (and probably mine… I’m forever shedding coins). We have lots of extras, but thank you!

we called the number listed on the city website to get a recycling bin–no response, no bin delivered as promised. Any suggestions?

We just bought a rolling recycling bin. Our two smaller recycling bins/totes are now just taking up space. Free to good home.

Latham Home Sanitation (the city’s recycling vendor) sells them. $75 (if you use a card) and they’ll deliver it to your house. http://www.decaturga.com/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=17

I went to Ace and probably paid more than I should have. Well, at least I don’t have to deal anymore with those annoying totes with cardboard, cans and plastic falling out all over the ground.

i called over 6 months ago to complain about how the recycle guys empty my bins and then THROW them back to the curb. Everyone I buy gets cracked or busted within a few weeks. I ask for new bins, was told I would get them, and have not received any since. I refuse to buy any more bins since the recycle company doesn’t care about them. I just keep adding duct tape and keep using the bins. If you’ve never seen how your bins are treated, I’d recommend you watch on your next recycle pick up day.

Was out to dinner in Decatur on the square last night. About 9:30 the waiter announced “Well, the skateboarders are out”. We looked out to see tall thin muscular black men in their 20’s or 30’s just flying down the street on skateboards. What’s up with that? From the waiter’s reaction, it seemed like it must be a regular thing. Anybody else ever see this?

I still contend that the city’s outlawing of skateboards and razor scooters in downtown Decatur goes against our big walkability claims. There’s no easier way to get yourself to a MARTA station and hop on a bus/train than by skateboard, roller blades or Razor scooter. Yes, I understand the issues with doing tricks on public property, but that’s covered under destruction of property. And everything else that people that take issue with is covered under reckless endangerment. Here’s my 2014 post on the subject…

      Hey all

Anyone know of a good spot to find one of those pine straw guys that will deliver to your house? Always big trailers out in parking lots in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs, but I can’t recall seeing where any of those guys hang out down here in Decatur or environs. While I am psyched Intown has straw back in stock, I need 60+ bales and want to avoid the load/unload if I can…

      Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, Candler Park and Prius only narrows it down to about 4,000 individuals! :)

Progressive Repair at 2734 East Ponce (near YDFM) recently fixed my son’s cracked iPad screen for $100, it was ready the next day. Worth going there just to see all the old typewriters and other vintage office equipment.

+1 for Progressive. Fixed my out-of-warranty printer that did have an extended fix-for-free due to defective printheads, and they knew about it.

Thanks for the recommends – I just dropped it off at Progressive for their $100 iPad screen repair deal. Funny – I’ve driven past there a thousand times and never noticed it, despite the plethora of flashing signage. I also asked about replacing the battery while it was on the operating table, and was told the 4-year-old Apple battery was probably better than any 3rd party battery that might replace it – FWIW.

Progressive was next to Cafe Lily for years, and moved east for the Cafe Lily expansion.

Have you called the nearest Apple Store? I cracked my iPhone and they only charged $100 and it was fast (after making an appointment). I don’t have Apple Care so I was pleasantly surprised. Private shops quoted $200. iPad is bigger though, so if you find somewhere charging $100 then jump on it.

The Apple store at Perimeter told me $150, wondering how long ago you went? Most independent places charge anywhere from 70-100. I got my screen done for $70 but unfortunately i can’t remember the name of the place that did it but it was at Perimeter mall, not at the the Apple store but at a kiosk

Jeni’s found Listeria again and is closed, though they say that any ice cream eaten in the stores while they were open was fine. Sigh. The details are on their FB, Twitter, and webpage….

In case anyone was wondering, the Golden Pheasant last seen in the neighborhood by North Dekalb mall was flushed out of the bushes at the Little Creek Farm barn this morning. Given the amount of grain that gets spilled around there, the bird seems to be thriving. No photo, unfortunately.

Can anyone recommend a good, local cobbler? Preferably one with weekend drop off hours? I need new heel taps on about 75% of my heels and new soles on a couple as well.

Check with Sonny’s alterations by N. Dekalb mall. Her husband does shoes and she’s there on Saturdays. She does great alterations too

The shoe repair shop that has a Clairemont address but is really located in the lot behind Parker’s. It’s on the first floor of that parking deck. I believe the parking deck is the one where the murder of the hair stylist occurred. Something like One Town Square?

Thanks AHID. Not sure if my response is what you were looking for but Clairemont Shoe Repair use to be on Clairemont back in the day. It was located in a simple one story brick building that also housed the Miss Georgia ice cream store. I recall that there were two elderly employees, one white and possibly the owner and another a black man. Their aprons were always covered with dark shoe polish. There were also some beautiful old-timey shoe repair machines that were fun to watch. Next door was the Miss Georgia store, one of my favorite places in Decatur as a kid. Great nickel cones and milkshakes. I do not recall any criminal activity taking place but I was just a kid.

Bob’s Shoe Repair. He’s fast and his prices are more than fair.
He saved my favorite pair of shoes all for the tune of $15.

We are relatively new to town. Was the beach party a free community event? If so, trading it for something as costly to citizens as the water slide is a disappointing move. Many people will not be able to afford to take part in what I thought was supposed to be a fun, community-wide event. Bummer.

The beach party’s a paid event fundraiser for the Decatur Business Assn. Proceeds pay for the Concerts on the Square and Blue Sky Concert programs. The Slide event will assume the same role.

Looking for someone to do repairs to a concrete patio. One section has broken off due to underlying erosion and cracking the rock-faced retaining wall. Plus we need a solid retaining wall at the other end of the patio. Any ideas?
