We spend a good amount of time here talking about favorite outdoor spaces, but what about your favorite interior spaces?
Inspired by this “12 Buildings To See In New York Before You Die” post, I am curious to hear about your favorite interior spaces in Decatur and Atlanta.
One of my favs – the Healey Building in Downtown Atlanta – is above.

The Fox Theater
Callanwolde!
Love the suggestions so far. I must add the Peachtree Center Marta station. Just 120 feet below Downtown!
What a great place it would be to have a dance party! Worth paying just to go down to see it even if you aren’t riding the train.
Woot! Healey Building! I highly recommend a visit to see the rotunda, and it’s particularly nice at Christmas when there’s an enormous tree underneath. The rotunda is open to all to come see in the middle of the day (it has to be because there are a couple of retail spaces inside).
Another great one in Downtown is the Candler Building on Peachtree north of Woodruff Park. I’ve been able to walk inside without problem and look around (the security guard must get used to it). It’s very ornate and beautiful.
Another neat thing about the Candler Building is the worn steps.
An unexpected one for me a bunch of years back was the Bank of America on Marietta Street downtown. Very grand, “old school” bank setup. Sort of reminded me of Gringotts. 🙂
The Tabernacle.
Terminal West at King Plow.
Glenridge Hall is spectacular…… Ooops scratch that
The Marriott Grand Marquis (I think it’s called) downtown. The lobby is amazing–just look up.
Academy of Medicine on W. Peachtree St.
That’s where I got married +100
The sanctuary of the Greek Orthodox Church of The Annunciation on Clairmont Road. Its ceiling & walls are intricately-laid mosaic scenes, with every color under the rainbow. It’s gorgeous! One of the highlights of Greekfest is touring the Church itself (not to mention the food & pastries).
The stained glass and sanctuary at Peachtree Christian Church is pretty magnificent. (Spring St. and Peachtree).

Does OTP count? If so, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Lilbur.

+1000 That place is stunning!
The Medical Arts building is a must-see, inside and out!
The Biltmore Ballrooms – 817 West Peachtree Street
Georgia State Capital building
+1 for the Fox and Callanwolde
It’s kind of old hat now, but the lobby of the Portman-designed Hyatt downtown was the first example of a hotel with an “atrium” lobby.
The Lobby of the Hertz Bldg
+1 for the late Glenridge Hall
The atrium in the High Museum’s Meier building.
The very top of the Bank of America at night – climbing into that illuminated pyramid on top and looking up into a golden aviary full of enormous flying reptiles and silverback gorillas swinging through the girders…never will forget it.
For smaller scale, check out the Besharat Galleries in Castleberry Hill.
Fernbank’s Great hall, with its Gigantosaurus and Argentinosaurus!
I was expecting you to say Trackside.
Good point. I had to say Fernbank with its dinosaurs because that’s where Mrs J_T and I got married. But the afterparty WAS at Trackside, which is also pretty awesome and dinosaur references are not totally out of place there either. And our rehearsal dinner (OK, big ass drunken party that just happened to be the night before the wedding) was at Manuel’s. So, Trackside and Manuel’s too!
