I’m sure I’m the only one that misses the Omni, but I have a lot of great memories of that place. Most of them involving Rush.
Well, it sure wasn’t all those Hawks playoff victories.
The Nique led Hawks teams won quiet a few playoff games.
Nope, they really didn’t. They won a few first round series when they were still best of five, but they never won a second round series, getting beat badly in most of them. They were like the Braves of the NBA.
quite a few by Atlanta professional sports standards
Heh. I’ll give you that!
Closest they came was when they had an aging Celtics dynasty on the ropes, when Bird and Wilkins had that great 4th quarter duel in ’88. Pretty much went downhill for both players after that. I think that game was in the Omni. If so, it was probably the last great one there.
Atlanta pro sports feels a bit like the 80s right now, with the Falcons and Braves likely looking at some lean years ahead, and the Hawks the best team in town.
I have a lot great memories of the Omni too. But I don’t remember most of them.
Any old punks/ metal heads remember the Metroplex?
