From the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association April meeting minutes…
Asif Hussain, owner of Hop-N-Shop, came to the meeting to discuss the idea of redeveloping the Hop-N-Shop building. Update ideas to the property include adding a 2nd story for residential apartment units, an outdoor space, and bike rakes. NO decisions have been made.
Word is that the Hop-N-Shop store would remain on the building’s ground floor.
Bike rakes? Like rakes with wheels on them? That’s a pretty good idea.
It would certainly speed up yard cleanup. Thanks for the heads up about not freaking out DM. I almost had a total coniption. Wear else could one hop AND shop?
where* else. I hate my auto spell but even that’s a new one for me!
I vote for a rooftop lounge with umbrella drinks.
There just isn’t enough roof-top drinkin’ around here. I vote for this one.
I bet Big Tex would still be open if they had included a rooftop bar. It’s pretty much the only thing missing from the Decatur drankin’ scene.
It would be great to see some upgrades there and I love the existing ownership/management so I’m glad they will stay involved.
They can just move that DQ over here . . .
Live above the Hop ‘N Shop?
Dare to dream.
Live behind UJ?
If I lived above the Hop N Shop I would get an answering machine and start calling myself Jim Rockford.
If you’ve got Bike Rakes, Trebek, you’re sitting on a gold mine.
. . . just like your mother, Trebek!
I love the Hop N Stop just the way it is.
Initially I was against the idea. Then someone told me there would be bike rakes. Game changer.
True that.
I’m all for a few affordable units going up in Oakhurst, and so much the better that they would be provided by the Hop-N-Shop proprietors, who are unfailingly pleasant and fine fellows.
Who said anything about affordable?
Yeah, I’d expect anything built here to command premiums, not come with a discount. No point in redeveloping anything to rent it out for half of market rates.
I don’t know their plans, just that they’re shopkeepers and not developers by trade, so they may not necessarily be looking to max out. And while the presence of a beer, cigs and lottery purveyor on the bottom floor doesn’t preclude the possibility of lux units above, I’ll just reiterate my support for something on a slightly more modest scale.
Wear, thats funny.
Redevelop it into apartments and business below. At least have 2 bedroom and 2 baths apartments. May be it could be three stories for 20 families.
I wouldn’t have to walk two blocks to get my scratch tickets.
