My wife suggested this topic of conversation after a surprisingly hefty bill at a local dry cleaners for just a few items.
Which dry cleaners has your loyalty around these parts?

I’ve done Your Cleaners for years, even though my instincts tell me they’re probably comparatively pricey. I just haven’t had time to develop an alternate routine.
Speaking of Your Cleaners, dropped off today and there was a New Management sign on the door. Anyone know if this is referring to the new owners who took over many months ago or if it’s indicating another change in ownership?
I think this is a second management change. They now take credit/debit cards which I like. I am with you though – I have never really audited their prices but it seems very high. There’s a cleaner by the Dekalb Industrial Kroger which is cheaper but totally out of my way.
The dry cleaner at the Big Kroger on Dekalb Industrial is the cheapest in the area, but they have absolutely ruined 4 or 5 of my suits by scorching the suit jackets. I will never, ever take anything there again!
DITTO!!
In my previous life, when I lived in VA-HI and O4W, it was Sig Samuels. Yes, the parking was sometimes an issue, but the place has character and the multi-generation family behind the counter are a class act. These days I go to Courtesy Cleaners on DeKalb Ave since its along my commute. Sure its not Sig, but they have a drive-thru drop off (which is a godsend in the mornings) and the turnaround time is excellent.
They also provide a bag so when you drop off they can scan the tag and get all your customer info and preferences.
They are going to have pickup/drop-off service soon
For those living or travelling on the northside, we have gone to Kim’s Cleaners on Clairmont, across from the Emory Clairmont campus, for so long–long before children–that we have seen two different Kim families operate the business. It’s reasonably priced and fast, not fancy. We’re heavy users especially in the winter because we still have old school clothing like woolens and silk. The one time I tried a COD dry cleaners, I realized that we could not afford those prices on a regular basis. So we went back to Kim’s even though it’s slightly out of our way.
I use Kim’s.
I’ve been using Kim’s for several years. Nice people, good work. I tried some other places, but the prices were all higher.
I don’t know the name of the business, but there’s a dry cleaners on the corner of Austin and Elizabeth St. in Inman Park. I took my clothes there for years when I lived in that area, and never found anyone in Decatur I liked better, so I still make the trek. Really, really, nice family runs the business.
What is considered pricey? What should a men’s dress shirt cost? How about a dress?
I agree what is the going rate for a men’s dress shirt. We’ve used Marguerite Smith/Pinckard & Morgan for 20 years. I think men’s shirts are about $1.85 each.
I would love to see some prices on here. They never seem to be posted, so I always have to ask, or cross my fingers and hope it won’t be too bad when I come back.
Just tried the cleaners in Avondale Estates next to the Good Karma coffee shop, so I still have the receipt for dry cleaning:
Women’s trousers, 6.95
Silk blouse 7.95
Skirt 6.95
Quality Cleaners. North Druid Hills about 2 blocks east of 85. Great prices. Professional. Helpful. Like them so much I give them a $100 cash holiday gift every year.
I go to Joe May by the fire station down from Twains. They do a good job, but are grossly over priced. I’d like to switch, but they are convenient. Since I work from home though, I don’t have to dress up as much as I did when I had to go to an office every day. I guess it evens out then.
Evil corporate putting the little guy out of business nationally syndicated dry cleaner coming to your town soon: http://www.tidedrycleaners.com/
Get your franchise while they’re hot!
I use Century Cleaners near the Decatur Cemetery and the little Kroger. It’s only the one guy, but he has quick turnaround and is always really nice. They have a drop-off window and everything I’ve had done was very reasonably priced – much better than Joe May.
Been using Courtesy Cleaners on DeKalb Ave.; not in Decatur but ont the way to L5P or downtown. Very happy with their service. they do the bag with info tag and driveup drop off /pickup window.
Also very happy with Courtesy Cleaners. They are efficient and affordable as well as friendly.
I’ve used Century (mentioned above) for a long time and have been very happy. Jay (the one guy that works there) is always super nice, remembers your name, etc. I have them do minor things like hemming and patching as well. Love the drive thru!
Wrinkle-free Dockers and Polo (style) shirts = no dry cleaners. Yeah, I occasionally look a little rumpled; fortunately, everyone where I work has a similar wardrobe. 🙂
You’re an engineer?
Nope, but something just as drab…database marketing.
+1 @J_T
Doesn’t everyone just use the one that is most convenient in their daily lives? I use one near my office that is on the right side of the road on my way home every day.
Yes, especially if it’s drive through, but no if the price point is incredibly high. At one point in my life, a downtown cleaner was the most convenient but, when I picked up my big load a few days later, I realized that it would quickly become cheaper to just order new clothes. Meanwhile, Kim’s Cleaners always seems reasonable, no matter how big my load. I have the impression that they informally take into account how much you bring and round down for big loads and steady customers.
J_T does his own dry cleaning at home in his Big Green Egg.
That made me giggle.
Sauce-based stain treatments, ineffectiveness notwithstanding, provide the ultimate in green dry-cleaning. Earth first!
Shut up. And stop giving me ideas.
I like the Dry Cleaners on N. Dec Rd next to the Zaxby’s. I think they’re called N. Dectur Rd Cleaners or something like that. They are GREAT!!! Reasonably priced and excellent customer service.
I guess you meant North Druid Hills, not North Decatur. I’m pretty sure there is no Zaxby’s on North Decatur. The one on North Druid Hills backs up to North DeKalb Mall, and there is a cleaners a couple of doors south of that one.
Joe May Valet. They are expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Been using them for five years (back when they were just Decatur Cleaners, before they became part of the Joe May Franchise) and thus far they haven’t lost or ruined anything *knock on wood*.
We use Le Cleaners on Medlock, at the back of the shopping center with Melton’s (next to the wood guy).
Very reasonably priced, good work, and Ms. Le is very nice.
