  1. I’m glad citizens aren’t letting up on the DeKalb Police Department over Mr. Davis’ killing–we, and his family, deserve to have the truth, and that won’t come without a thorough, sifting investigation (by an outside agency).

Read the New Yorker piece about Albuquerque (last week or week before, I’m always behind) and you’ll be exponentially more sickened about how bad things can get if those who should be are not called to account.

      1. That article was eye-opening. Cops arriving *not in uniform* and with *personal weapons* and *jumping a fence*?? Even if I wasn’t mentally incapacitated in some form (as was the man in NM), I’d have a hard time with people yelling at me without understanding their objectives.

And take note of the Indian grandfather who had just arrived in Alabama to help out the family and was stopped by police and left paralyzed.

I understand that police need to proceed with caution. But when the force is this extreme, everyone must step back and re-evaluate.

I miss Kevin at Sawickis, and I hope that in the end his family and friends feel the GBI has done a thorough investigation into the events that led to his death.

  2. One of the “Four Cozy Inns” is temporarily closed. The website of Greystone Inn, now owned/run by Natural Retreats, says they’ve “announced the closure of the Greystone Inn for the 2015 season, in order to complete a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration. We anticipate finishing in time for reopening in Spring 2016.”

  3. Quietly critiquing the angle of the photo to myself … thinking the image is similar to one I took a while back while on CAPS duty at Run with the Dogs … then looking at the credit and realizing that it is actually my photo.

And hoping that one day I can find the time and money for some helpful instruction and guidance beyond my high school photography class.

Are there any good photography classes here in Decatur for novices like me who would simply appreciate taking better snapshots?
