So it appears that the Atlanta Business Chronicle has been holding an “Atlanta Beer Madness” bracket the last month or so to determine Atlanta’s favorite local brewery. Lee points out that the finals are upon us and Three Taverns in going up against Kennesaw’s Burnt Hickory.

I buy a fair amount of craft beer, and I don’t know that I’ve ever even seen any Burnt Hickory. Ballot stuffing?
Sorry, Decatur, but Burnt Hickory is producing better beer.
Haha! A quote I use most often myself!
I’ll take your word for it Walrus, but you’d think this kind of thing would be mostly a popularity contest. Where can I try Burnt Hickory on draft?
Agreed. I have no doubt it is about the breweries getting folks out in force to vote for them. I’m seeing it mostly on tap at growler stores around here.
C’mon y’all, vote! It’s 52% to 48% with Three Taverns in the lead! There is no way those Kennesaw suds are better than Decatur’s finest Belgian! We may have lost the senate but at least we can win the draught!
Burnt Hickory should be the winner based on quality. It’s generally found to the northwest because their capacity is small (it’s really a nanobrewery) and it doesn’t get very far from Kennesaw. I’ve had it at the Brick Store a couple of times.
They are actually now officially a “micro-brewery”. New brewery equipment installed recently…
And actually, isn’t this post a form of ballot-stuffing? How can you vote for Three Taverns if you’ve never had Burnt Hickory?
Touche. But how can someone vote for Burnt Hickory if they’ve never had Burnt Hickory?
Umm, Don’t vote at all, perhaps?
Looking at their lineup, their styles are certainly more to my liking than what the breweries around here are doing.
Congratulations to Scott Hedeen and Burnt Hickory Brewery on the win.
The contest is still going on. It ends on the 13th.
It is amazing how many “local” breweries there are now versus 3 years ago. Hopefully the GA Craft Brewers Guild will be successful in getting the State laws eased just a bit to allow some limited on site sales at these breweries. This would hopefully help ensure the survival of most of these ventures and maybe even encourage a few more to start up.
Easy choice for me. It’s a much shorter walk back home from the Three Taverns Brewery (after sampling several high gravity beers) than it is from Kennesaw.
Website says it closed 11/6.
You are probably looking at an older web page.
Current voting page states “Click here to vote for your favorite brew. Voting ends Nov. 13 at 11:59 p.m.”
It appears that a tiebreaker between Three Taverns and Terrapin extended the voting for an additional week.
I wouldn’t say Burnt Hickory is necessarily better quality, but I would say they produce more interesting beers and beers geared more toward my style preferences.
As far as never seeing their stuff, as mentioned, they are very small so not much to distribute out of the greater Kennesaw area at this point. It is on tap at growler shops and places like the Brick Store from time to time though. They do an open house once a month or so, but too far of a drive to drink a bunch of high gravity beer for me.
And I don’t know about ballot stuffing, but they do have a loyal fan base on social media.
Gotta give it to 3Taverns because they know how to use an apostrophe.
