Twisted Soul Opening in Old MARBAR Space

From a sort of buried AJC blurb a week or so ago…

Recently shuttered Marbar Beachside Cantina in Decatur has a new owner and a new concept. Deborah VanTrece, executive chef/owner of the Catering Company by VanTrece, is set to take over the troubled Mexican restaurant, which reopened in May after a five-month hiatus then closed again in late October, and replace it with an eatery called Twisted Soul. “I have been working on this for some time, since I closed my restaurant, Edible Art Cafe in East Atlanta,” VanTrece said. “I am so excited to bring my Southern flair to the Decatur area.”

  1. Sounds more like a death metal band than a restaurant, but wouldn’t mind some Southern cookin’.

  2. In a somewhat related note, I noticed there is some kind of art installation or art event group setting up in the old Carpe Diem space. Anyone know the details?

  3. Glad you noticed! The city has been working with a group of senior architecture students at Georgia Tech, led by Decatur artist/architect Amy Landesberg, to re-imagine a portion of the Old Decatur neighborhood as an EcoArts District. They have come up with some great ideas for micro-housing for artists, pop up performance spaces and an interactive ribbon/wall feature to run along the PATH. I would encourage you to attend the final showing at the IceHouse lofts on Thursday, December 4th between 6-8pm. There will be food, drinks, performance and most importantly new ways for us to provide housing and performance space for artists.

    1. We should not be encouraging artists to live here. Artists have sex. Sex makes babies. Babies grow up to be revenue negative school age kids. Why isn’t anybody thinking about the schools?!? It’s all about the schools!!!

Seriously, though, that’s awesome. Looking forward to the showing on December 4th!

    2. Well how ’bout that! This sounds great. Thanks for the information and I definitely plan to come on Dec. 4th.

  4. Awesome! Sounds comfortingly familiar, but different enough from what we already have to bring in the dinnertime crowds. That location’s so easily walkable for us, I’m really looking forward to its opening.
