Well, there’s your economic diversity, Decatur. On one side of the street, Tesla, selling electric cars to the 1%. On the other, Wal-Mart, selling electric gadgets to the bottom 20%.

Well, there’s already a BMW dealership there. Not exactly an icon of the middle class. And they sell an electric car too–an ugly one, but I hear it’s otherwise pretty good.

Oddly neither of those locations is Decatur. Yet.

Yes, but close enough. And I suspect you’re right, they’ll be annexed eventually. But beware — Tesla is not too big on actually paying any taxes, as evidenced by the battery plant in Nevada.

“Tesla is not too big on actually paying any taxes, as evidenced by the battery plant in Nevada.”

No one forced Nevada to make that deal, so it would be more correct to say Nevada’s Gov. Brian Sandoval isn’t too big on requiring companies to pay taxes.

It wouldn’t be “more correct.” Both can be (and are) true.

OK, not more correct, but more apt. I don’t know any companies that are “big on paying taxes.” Tesla was pursued by several states willing to give them a sweetheart deal; it’s not like they sought out loopholes they could use to exploit the letter of the law.

Tesla is playing the same game every other company would do. I believe they picked the location because it puts 3 electric car manufacturers next to one another.

“Tesla is playing the same game every other company would do.”

Yep. Mercedes and BMW have gotten some pretty sweet deals in Alabama and South Carolina.

At least Tesla is made in USA.

Did South Carolina and Alabama secede again?

The parts and profit are German.

They may have started two world wars, but they do make damn fine automobiles.

I applaud Elon Musk for having the stones to do what no one thought he could do – pure American entrepreneurship that we need more of. Have to disagree with you DEM as the ultimate driving machine should be renamed the ultimate drive train since once you move beyond that it is time to get out your checkbook and write big checks for poor quality/design.
