  1. Do y’all really have “the cool natural breeze of the Georgia air”? It’s still really hot in Atlanta.

  2. I haven’t felt the “mystic quality” myself. Maybe I need to stand closer to the fountain.

  3. Heh. When I saw this yesterday on facebook, I assumed someone had hacked the site or otherwise made it up to include Decatur. Please tell me that’s what happened.

  4. Bless her heart, but I think the author took the concept of creative writing a bit too literally.

  5. What’s next – Pete the Cat in the same company as Mona Lisa, Starry Night and The Night Watch?

  6. Whoah! I want to live in THIS Decatur!!! in all seriousness–I do love our li’l town, but I have to believe the author of this article hasn’t actually been here (or, maybe, even to any of the other places that made the Top 5). We’ve got a charming little square, but I wouldn’t put it on par with Rome, or Prague. Skopje, maybe. (OK, that last one was a joke–I’ve never been there.)

  7. BTW, I do love the assumption that the purveyor of the listicle in question is somehow reputable despite the fact that I’m sure no one here had heard of Travel Pulse before today. Based on that and the Tommy Wiseau-esque prose, it’s fair to assume this is someone operating from outside the U.S. (I’m going to guess eastern Europe based on the other selections on the list) who just plugged “town square” and some positive adjectives into Google, picked what they thought looked good, and called it a day.

    1. I think you’re on to something… google “united states best town square” and the first hit is Travel + Leisure’s “America’s Most Beautiful Town Squares”
      http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/americas-most-beautiful-town-squares

Decatur is on the list and the article starts with a blurb about Decatur.

  8. Maybe. But if you Google the author’s name, residence in New Jersey is indicated. And you might be surprised by the kind of prose turned out by U.S. college grads today. I’ve seen worse.

  9. Maybe that’s why there’s no video for Decatur–would reveal that this kind of ranking is a bit, well, inflated…

  10. It amuses me that Italians might be debating skateboarders and no smoking signs on RomeMetro.com

  11. I’d been wondering is this is one of those sites that populates local content base on your ip address. Not technical enough to A) know how to tell or B) even understand if I’m using the right terminology.
But if I’m dialing in from SF, would I see Union Square in the same space?
