Atlanta Time Machine Creator Victim of Hit-and-Run By Red SUV in Morningside

    Decatur Metro | June 10, 2014 | 2:54 pm

I want to get this up, so I’m just going to copy-and-paste from the MANA site…

Please be on the lookout for a red SUV with recent damage on the front end. Creative Loafing and WSB-TV report that Greg Germani, creator of the Atlanta Time Machine, Medlock resident and overall awesome guy suffered serious trauma and injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial after what appears to be an intentional hit-and-run on Flagler Avenue in Morningside.

The Creative Loafing item includes a comment stating

Any witnesses to this hit and run, please contact Detective Robert Jackson, APD Zone 2, (404) 816-7067.The victim’s last name is actually Germani but it is listed as “German” on the police report.

Readers will be glad to know I have absolutely no problem with profiling SUV drivers. Hope they catch the thug who did this.

Ugh. I’m about as much of a kombucha-brewing peacenik hippie as you can get…. but hearing this news about Greg Germani (who is a very cool dude) makes me wish very, very bad things for this driver.

An attempted murder charge sounds about right.

Atlanta drivers are a special kind of vicious, especially when it comes to bicyclists. Cyclists: Always report them when they endanger you — you never know who the may already have killed.

I heard about this yesterday and my thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery go out to the gentleman who was injured. First of all, let me say that I cannot fathom how someone could harm someone in such a way and flee. Though if you have the capacity to harm someone in such a way it’s not entirely surprising you would flee. That being said, and in response to Decaturite16, that generalization is ridiculous.

Decaturite16 is generalizing, but may be on to something. I’ve commuted by bike in several large cities in various countries. Only in Atlanta have I been deliberately run into by motorists on a regular basis.

My “generalization” is based on years of daily bike commuting, and rides in numerous other cities. I’ve never had a gun pulled on me by a driver, or been beaned with a full beer can, or run off a curb, or been threatened with death for not clearing out of the road fast enough after going head over handlebars trying to avoid a driver turning left in front of me, anywhere other than the good ol’ ATL. Try it for a while. It’ll redefine your sense of hyperbole.

A jerk is a jerk no matter their mode of transportation. I have plenty more to say in response to your post, as i both ride a bike and drive, but this is neither the time nor the place. I will say i am glad you have not been severely injured, and it just plan sucks you have had to deal with crummy people.

Greg Germani is a dear friend and I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery and that they catch this lunatic. There’s simply no excuse for this kind of behavior. What is wrong with people?!

Whoever did it is just crazy and evil. Running soemone down with a car is, as noted above, attempted murder, pure and simple. I don’t know Greg but hope he makes a full recovery and that the assailant spends a lifetime in jail.

Greg and I work at the same place and I used to ride with him to work. I am shocked now to learn that he was the victim of this attack.
He is a very experienced rider, very cool, calm and courteous in traffic. If they went after him they’d attack anybody.
