Arepa Mia Says They’re Opening Second Location In Decatur

This was passed around on FFAF, but here’s a bit more info – if not a location quite yet.  Arepa Mia, which has its first location in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, writes on their Facebook page…

Okay… I wanted to wait until May 25th to give you all the news about AREPA MIA coming to Decatur. But since this Sunday is Mother’s Day, and Arepa Mia is inspired by my Mother. What better day to give you the news! YES! Arepa Mia will be in Decatur as a second home opening early June.

  1. So happy about this! Love their food! Hope they won’t move into the cursed Hola! space….

  2. I absolutely love their food! But their menu is somewhat similar to Calle Latina. I hope they don’t cannibalize each other.

    1. First came the gastropubs. Then came the yogurt stands. And then the inevitable, merciless incursion of the arepas…

      1. Yet you still can’t get a decent pierogi in this town. Let’s hope that the next food fad is Polish cusine!

        1. But the kielbasa at Pine Street Market is excellent. Even YDFM’s version is pretty good.

          1. Oh yeah, Pine Street’s kielbasa is awesome. Expensive, but awesome. YDFM usually has Patak kielbasa (or at least used to), which is slightly less awesome but bonus points “for the money.” I heard that Palookaville had some decent pierogi last month but I didn’t get there to try it, so my kitchen remains the only place locally to get good ones for the time being.

            1. What is a pierogi? Heard of it, wouldn’t know one if it slapped me.

              1. Half moon shaped dough filled with mashed potato. Polish peasant-style dish. Usually boiled then fried in butter. Tasty.

                1. “filled with mashed potato” sells them a bit short! Potato & cheese; potato w/garlic and onion; potato with onion and bacon; sauerkraut, sweet white cheese…it’s not just mashed potatoes around here!

        2. What about the pierogis at the Brick Store? I know there’s no sauerkraut. But the fried sage is awesome!

    2. Calle Latina has a sign up proclaiming a new menu is coming soon. The plot thickens! (Or doesn’t and this is just a coincidence.)

  3. This is some of the best food in Atlanta, now it will be some of the best food in Decatur. Now I can have Arepa Mia for lunch and dinner!

  4. Exciting news! I assisted a cooking class with the owner/chef and found that not only is the food delicious, but she has an AMAZING personality as well! Congrats! Hope that the business won’t take a toll on Calle Latina; they are great too!

    1. Calle Latina is fantastic! They have plenty of meat options for the meat lovers, but if you’re a vegetarian and are used to lamenting that Asheville has so much more to offer for vegetarians…go to Calle Latina. Heavenly. A huge plus is the Calle Latina owners are always donating to school events.

  5. You know the real problem with arepas? I can’t see or hear the words without my head filling with Kurt Cobain’s voice singing “Arepa me!”

          1. Waiting? My problem is I DON’T wait. A thought pops into my head and it immediately comes out of my mouth or keyboard. Whether it’s appropriate or not. Usually not…
