Decatur Metro | March 24, 2014Warm weather is coming. Sorta. And it looks like we’ve only ever done a “for the money” for red wine.
So what about it’s chilled sibling, white? Share your favorites here!

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
It is a New Zealand Marlborough white, and you can get it for $13 a bottle at YDFM. I have visited the vineyard and liked it there. It is a well respected wine an a great value pick from sommaliers and wine experts, so you will look good serving it to even snobby guests. Great with seafood.
Good one. I also like Walnut Block from NZ, at YDFM for maybe $13/bottle.
I actually prefer the grapefruity Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc to the Kim Crawford — and it’s a little bit less expensive as well.
Wholeheartedly agree on Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Bit expensive most places but it’s almost a perfect SB for the money.
I’m white and I whine a lot. And I’m really cheap, so I vote for me.
Costco’s Kirkland Chardonnay is $7/bottle, and granted the 2011 Napa was better than the 2012 Sonoma that’s currently in stores, but for $7/bottle, this is still a bargain.
Perrin White Cote du Rhone–it’s very dry but still fruity, & goes well with food (especially cold veggie appetizers, cheeses, and seafood). At about $9 per bottle, it’s a bargain for the pleasure it brings.
WHHHHY don’t we have a Trader Joe’s?
Midtown is not really that far….
Oh, and TJ’s Green Fin white table wine is pretty good too ($3.99 a bottle)!
Barefoot Pinot Grigio! In my opinion it beats most other pinot grigios. About $4-5 a bottle
I prefer Rex Goliath for cheap Pinot Grigio.
Hola, that was the white whine. I actually don’t want a TJs.
IMO you won this thread.

I don’t drink white wine, but if bubbly counts, just about any Cava is a great deal right now.
This is such a difficult question because everyone has their own unique tastes and preferences! I love “Cubalibre’s” Cote du Rhone suggestion above. The white rhone blends tend to be pleasant and have nice character to them. For chardonnay lovers, DeKalb Farmers Market has some good affordable choices….J. Lohr is nice if you like heavier, more oaky chards and it’s around $10 I think, I also tried a “Creme de Lys” that’s only $8 right now and it’s very easy to drink. I’ve never met a white wine drinker who hasn’t enjoyed Ferrari Carrano’s Fume Blanc, it’s a little more pricey but less than $15 — for sauvignon blanc lovers it’s a great choice.
This is kinda like asking, what’s the best beer? There are so many kinds that are good for different seasons and occasions. If you asked what’s the best warm weather wine, I’d probably choose a Provencal or Spanish rose (accent on the e) — something intended to be served cold.
I’m good with many of the pink wines, too, Decaturite16. And they’re so beautiful in the warm weather when we can sit outside again. Once I had a hummingbird buzz my glass. That’s a Summer moment.
Check out Vouvray, it’s a French white. I think it’s related to Chenin Blanc and/or Viognier – but I just drink them, I don’t interview them. They are all tasty wines. Vouvray is harder to find than the other two.
I like me some Sancerre, but it’s not usually particularly cheap.
I like me some Sancerre, as well, Dem.
This is not a dig, DEM and Parker.( I like it, too!) But this is funny – “Sancerre is the Tom Hanks of wine.” http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424127887324235304578438700482696428
No dig taken. The first time I tried a Sancerre was at a massive wine tasting and the distributor called it “a great breakfast wine.”
None here, either. As the article basically says, it is unpretentious and tastes great, what’s not to like?
The Target box wines are great values, as Consumer Reports has recently noted. We particularly enjoy them when used with an aerator. We favor their Pinot Grigio, but also like their Sauvignon Blanc; priced under $20 for 3 liters (equivalent of 4 bottles).

King Estates Pinot Gris is lovely–as are nearly all Oregon Whites. It’s $15ish usually so that might not be cheap, but for the money it’s just excellent.
Yellowtail Chardonnay is a good white — and you can buy it at Publix. Easy peasy.
Here’s to the Giant 47 Pound Rooster’s Pinot Grigio!
