Decatur Mascot revealed?
Anybody know if that’s a peacock or guinea fowl? There’s a difference.
Definitely a peacock. Guinea fowl are not that big or that pretty!
That’s fantastic, but shouldn’t it be on a leash. I hear peacock pee is really bad for young dogwood saplings and if people start dumping their peacock poop in my recycling bin I’ll really be upset.

We love our free range Oakhurst peacocks! My kids especially love it when we walk past the house and they are sitting on the ridge of the roof. Of note, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any peacock poop. You would think that with birds that big it would be rather obvious. Perhaps it has magical powers and is being collected on the sly by a covert international conglomerate who is selling it for wild profits…or I’ve just never noticed it all over…

My daughter and I love walking by that house and looking for the peacock.
Chik Fil A protestor?
Considering who owns that peacock, I wouldn’t doubt it!
With the Decatur Book Festival and all I am thinking about Flannery O’Connor 😉
Me too! Eatonton had their own shot-lived literary festival ten years or so ago focused on Flannery O’Connor, Alice Walker and Joel Chandler Harris. It never took off, I think, because Alice Walker refused to participate. But it was pretty cool the two years I attended. Not that the much larger, big citified DBF isn’t also amazing 😉
Actually that fine festival down in Eatonton mutated into the Georgia Literary Festival, which is now run by the Georgia Center for the Book. Instead of staying in one place, it moves around the state each year. You can find it on Jekyll Island this year in November.
He’s our peacock named Sora. His peawife is Kyree but she’s kinda shy and stays in the backyard although they both do sleep on the roof every night. No leash training yet and they definately do NOT support Chick-Fil-A same as their dads.
I’ve read that guinea fowl provide excellent insect control. Is the same true of peacocks?
Yup, they eat all kinds of bugs. We’ve never had Japenese beetles on our crepe myrtles since we got the peafowl.
When I was young, we had a house next to a mango orchard. The orchard owners kept them as security against mango thieves. They could be unbelievably loud. So you’re probably not going to have any problem with robbers.
Sure, they’re pretty, but they are so very, very loud and call at all hours of the night in the spring and fall that sleeping with the windows open is practically impossible.
