Yeah, noticing those had gone in put big smiles on our faces. That was always kind of a dead zone in the squarescape (I should trademark that). The huge, unadorned stucco wall was unattractive, imposing, and just not conducive to hanging out. But soon that area is going to be just as bustling as the bocce court outside Leon’s. Looking forward to it.
Also looking forward to the larger space making it easier to get a reservation at C&A, as we just tried to get one for this evening and were denied.
Took me a while to figure out where the picture was taken. It’s of the West Side of the Sycamore-Church intersection, where there used to be a burger or pizza place. If you panned to the right (past the end of the frame) you’d see the entrance to the Decatur MARTA station.
That’s going to be a great strip, with C&A, Sushi Ave., McGees, Iberian Pig, and Burrito Palace all in a row…
I could be wrong, but I thought there was discussion of one of those apertures being an entrance. Was I in the midst of an “Ode to Mercy” haze at the time, or does anyone else recall that?
Last I heard, Daren, there will be a single door there but it won’t serve as a primary entrance. I also recall hearing something along the lines that they originally wanted prominent doors on the Church side but that they would constitute too much of a change from the original configuration and would compromise their historic preservation grants. I may have dreamed that part though.
And a Saguaro cactus in the foreground. Cool!

Sorry if we took your table–delicious meal in the front booth tonight at C & A!

Now if only we had a comic and game store on the square……oh a nerd can dream!

I remember hearing about tables on the sidewalk, so a door there would make sense. But maybe I dreamed it, too.

I recall something about a door and the restrictions of the preservation tax incentives too. I think Steve was the one that mentioned it.
yay! that strip has been a bit of an eyesore for a while. love cakes & ale for the cocktails, and now this!
