Decatur Diner Actually Quite Close to Opening

    Decatur Metro | February 11, 2011 | 9:40 am

I inquired with the City of Decatur yesterday if the Decatur Diner had been issued a Certificate of Occupancy yet – the final legal hurdle before an establishment can open.  I was told that the Diner only had to install their alarm system and receive final approval from the Fire Marshall and Health Department and they would be issued their CO.  This is leagues closer than the last time I asked about a month ago, when I was told that most of the final inspections hadn’t even been requested yet.

And then there’s this comment posted last night from someone claiming to be the Diner’s chef, promising to give us his recipes if they don’t open by February 18th.

So throw this report on the pile and take it for what it’s worth!

Let the comments begin. What will we have to talk about if they open?

We can have a heated debate on the superiority of the patty melt over the chicken salad…

Which is really sort of a no-brainer: What kind of obtuse IDIOT would choose chicken salad over a patty melt…?!

      Recipes?

Remove frozen chicken tenders from bag.
      Place in fryer basket.
      Drop fryer basket into oil.
      Remove when chicken floats.

Has it been confirmed this is the same organization as the Marietta Diner?

I was told the DD owner is related to MD owner (brothers, if memory serves).

“only had to install their alarm system and receive final approval from the Fire Marshall and Health Department and they would be issued their CO.”

That’s a big only. They’d have an easier time getting a liquor license. DeKalb Fire Marshall is notoriously picky (probably a good thing, though, eh?).

Hah! I’ll see you one better: Decatur Diner robbed ME of my hope for a better tomorrow.

OK, this begs for another thread: DM posters, what has the Decatur Diner robbed YOU of???

          My electricity.

Due to the incredible power drain from the 24-hour neon and light show, my neighborhood has had to undergo a series or rolling blackouts to perserve the integrity of the Decatur power grid.

IF it does open on February 14th, I won’t believe it until I see multiple pictures of people eating food inside the building.

Was walking by this afternoon and ran into a bunch of Diner folks on patio, including guy who seemed to be in charge. I asked if it was true that they were opening tomorrow and the guy said gruffly “5 PM”. He certainly wasn’t drumming up business.
