Decatur Beer Festival Tickets Go on Sale Today at Noon

    Decatur Metro | September 20, 2010 | 9:38 am

    ‘Nuf said?

If you’re new to this game of buying Decatur Craft Beer Festival tickets, know that there are only 4,000 tickets available to the drinking public and the event ALWAYS sells out.  And quickly.

How quickly?  Last year, tickets were gone in 12 days and prior to the event were selling on Craigslist for upwards of $80.  They retail for $35.

So come noon, use THIS LINK and head over to Ticket Alternative to purchase your tickets.  (P.S.  There’s a two ticket limit for this event)

I can’t go with kids in tow, but one of you sappy suckas should pick me up tee. Considering all the illustration haters out there, there may be plenty left over.

Have always wanted to go but heard the long lines were a drag – any comments on that?

If you are willing to try different beers, there are always options with little to no lines.

In the old days before on-line sales, the line to get in used to be crazy long and slow (cash transactions in addition to showing your i.d.). If you were towards the end of the line, you stood in line without knowing for sure that you would get in.

I miss the old pint glasses.

Yeah, I’ve never had a problem with big lines for individual beers. I mean, some can be long, but if you’re flexible with what you’re trying when, it’s not really a problem.

Do you mean: (1) the lines to get in, (2) the lines for each beer or, most importantly, (3) the lines for the bathrooms???

One was solved by limiting the ticket sales. Two, as the above commented, can be limited by your beer selection. Three is still a problem…

(OK, I suppose a creative or uniquely structured female could also use the Stadium Pal)

Dude, does Stanley know you use this? it might be why he kept trying to escape! :0)

(I loved the Stanley adventures story. I’m sure it’s more entertaining in hindsight!)

If this is THAT popular, I wish they’d charge more for it. Then the groups who benefit would get more money. Just a thought.

Sold out in hours? Really? I’m suspicious, and cranky.

My wife told me there was less than 700 still available around 3:30 today. She was either telling the truth or getting me off my ass to get some.

I just tried to buy tickets and they are sold out. How can that possibly be true??

      • Decatur Metro says:
        September 20, 2010 at 10:34 pm

        Wow. ‘Tis true.

        http://www.facebook.com/DecBeerFest

All I can add is that in past years, I remember being one of just a few people that mentioned that tickets were “now on sale” day of. This year much of the social media world was abuzz about the 12noon selling time. Smart move to put them on sale starting during the day instead of midnight.

    7. Cubalibre says:
      September 20, 2010 at 10:25 pm

This absolutely blows. They’re sold out, and there’s already some tool on Craiglist who’s selling 2 tickets for either $85 each, or $160 for the pair. I truly hope no one buys them.

Thoughts on selling tickets exclusively at local shops/bars/restaurants? It would force out of town residents to come (potentially) spend additional money in Decatur when picking up tickets and would make tickets a bit more accessible to local residents. It sells out faster and faster each year and local residents run the risk of being shut out of their own festival.

I don’t think that’s a bad idea, but it might not be practical. The event has aligned itself with Ticket Alternative and to my knowledge the only TA retailer in Decatur is Decatur CD. You’d either have to have TA supply some mobile support or change ticketing companies.

      • Robbie says:
        September 21, 2010 at 11:21 am

GREAT idea PL! Seems like that would have 2 key benefits for the local community:

        1) Brings new folks into our town to eat/shop/etc as they’re buying tickets prior to the festival

        2) Gives local residents a better chance at getting tickets before they sell out

And no, I’m not being a homer on this one. I love the fact that so many people get introduced to our fair burg through great events like this.

      • Rebecca says:

I love this idea. Since we have both a craft beer retailer and a brewery coming to the city soon (in addition to our many excellent bars and such), there are some very logical local connections where Beer Festival tickets could be available. Maybe Ticket Alternative could sell to these folks who could then distribute, so Ticket Alternative could still be the ticket provider but local businesses could get the opportunity for the extra business this could bring in. I also love the idea of a Decatur resident pre-sale.

It does suck that it’s become such a money maker for scalpers. I’d be willing to bet a fair amount of money that about half the tickets sold went to scalpers who are going to sell them at a profit.

I loved the last two beer fests that I went to since I moved to Decatur, especially since I only live 1 block away from it. And I couldn’t wait to get tickets to this one, been checking the site for updates since back in March/April.

But unfortunately for me the TA site is blocked at work so i couldn’t order tickets till i got home after. Stayed a little late to get some extra work done and didn’t get in till nearly 7:00 only to find they had sold out by then. :(

Sucks as I was planning to have a few friends from out of town come in for the beer fest, but not anymore…unless someone has some additional tickets they would like to sell??

If I remember correctly, Chris, last year there was a limited re-release of tickets close to the day of the Fest. Stayed tuned. Also, for future reference, Ticket Alternative does have a “purchase by phone” number. Although it was steadily busy the times I tried calling (I was able to prevail online though).
