Looking For Free Meeting Space in Decatur

Hi, DM! I’m a frequent reader and sporadic poster on the blog, and I have a question.
The nonprofit for which I work here in Decatur is curious about what free or low-cost meeting space might be out there in the Decatur area. Occasionally, we have meetings with more people than our tine conference room can hold, and we don’t have the ability to pay a premium for a big meeting space.
Might some of your readers have some suggestions?
The Solarium at Scottish Rite is one option if your event is free and open to the public, has a minimal impact on the Solarium grounds, your event doesn’t conflict with any prescheduled events or booked rentals. Where else?

The meeting room at the Decatur Library is available for non-profits to rent. Right now it is $20 per use. Go here for more information and guidelines:

If your meeting or event is not open to the public and you need to rent the Solarium, as a non-profit you qualify for a 50% discount, I believe.
You should check with Cornerstone Bank about using their community meeting room. They’ve been a great friend to community organizations!
The Atlanta Friends Meetinghouse on W. Howard may have low-cost rental space available. Web site is atlanta.friends.org
It’s not exactly pretty, but I believe the Rec offers free meeting space subject to availability.
Might be too small for you, but Chocolate Coffee at N. Decatur and Clairmont has a free meeting room.
error correction — Atlanta Friends Meeting web site is: atlanta.quaker.org
You could use the Renewal Design-Build showroom. Could handle your technology needs, and there’s free coffee:) Could fit 10 to 15 comfortably…
What’s the nature of the non-profit?
@Sharyn – Our nonprofit is the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Georgia’s statewide coalition for domestic violence shelters and community-based, non-residential programs. Here’s a link to our website: http://www.gcadv.org.
I’d also check with various churches in town, also. My neighborhood assoc. meets at Friends sometimes, but we had to put a deposit down, get a key, etc. We’re in the neighborhood, so that works for us.
But ANY church around here has large meeting spaces. The best bet would be to find out which of your members also belongs to a church around here.
Thanks so much to everyone who offered suggestions for meeting spaces! This info is very helpful.
