Julia Roberts’ Decatur Years

Well now this paragraph in the New Georgia Encyclopedia’s entry for Julia Roberts is sorta interesting for more than one reason…
In 1957 [Roberts’ parents] left the air force, and Walter enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1960 the family moved to Decatur, Georgia, where Walter began working with Atlanta’s Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou began production on a local Saturday morning children’s television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies, which they financed themselves. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop, which ran for six years. During this time they had two more children—Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
Anyone know where in Decatur the Roberts family lived way back in the 60s?

I wouldn’t get too excited. Back in the 60s, the term ‘Decatur’ meant everything from Belvedere to Tucker and over to Chamblee. It is only recently, with the installation of the invisible walls and gates, that ‘Decatur’ has come to mean your 4 square miles.
Ha!
Maybe she attended Westchester! We could invite her to the Westchester AID Concert!
I think Smyrna claims JR as their own.
her family lived over in the Morningside area off Johnson Road… possibly decatur was short lived…. they were running the theatre when they lived in Morningside…
One of my husband’s business partners went to high school with her in Smyrna (I’ve seen his high school annual, and you’d never have guessed she would look like she does now!). Apparently, her family joined the “white flight” to the suburbs back in the 70’s…
A friend went to school with JR at Campbell High School, Smyrna
I had some friends who worked with her at the Showbiz Pizza behind Cumberland Mall. They said she was CREEPY and they did everything they could to avoid her.
