What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?
Decatur Metro | December 28, 2009 | 4:19 pmJ Murdoch posted this question in this week’s Free-For-All Friday. I thought we might be able to help ‘em out.
Does anyone know of any good New Year’s Eve events in Decatur? We’re looking for something fun, not too DJ-ey, and maybe a little dressy.
I had seen something at Leon’s Full Service about a New Years Eve “Speakeasy” party with jazz and champagne, but cannot find any more information – like if you need reservations, if there is a special menu, etc. Sounds like lots of fun – anyone have more info?
You don’t need reservations… there will be a jazz band after 10… No prix fixe menu, but special cocktails (and perhaps special menu items). I am trying to remember from the ad I did for it for Stomp & Stammer. Sounds like fun, my wife and I will be there!
Rejoicing that my parents have gone back home so I can have a real holiday! If I stay up late enough to see a ball or peach drop, that will be gravy.
Contra dance at Clarkston Community Center (15 min from Decatur). See contradance.org for more info.
Palate is having special cocktails and if I am remembering correctly a gambling night.
I don’t know from New Year’s Eve (I mostly avoid it), but props for including the Rufus Wainwright clip! He’s one of my favorites, but I’d forgotten about that particular song.
Amen. Rufus is also one of my faves.
This clip is actually a GAP ad from when GAP ads were sorta cool.
We’re hosting a little cocktail attire-ish party at Raging Burrito/Raging Taco (no need to be on the invite list). While there will be fun music playing (R&B and 80’s), it won’t be too DJ-y.

Is it wrong to ask about Atlanta events?! I know this blog is about all things Decatur, but I thought you guys might indulge me. The event at Leon’s sounds nice — reinforcing the idea that the Leon’s/Brick Store folks REALLY need to open a location in Atlanta.
Happy New Year Decatur Metro!
Leon’s needs to rent a bigger hall and do it up big! All of Decatur would be there…
Cakes and Ale is having an early and late seating on New Year’s eve. The late seating starts at 10:30pm and is $35 per person for a set menu of snacks and apps sent out throughout the evening. We’ll have mellow music and we think it will be a fun evening!
The Grange was great last year so we will be back this year.
