    Decatur Metro | September 17, 2009 | 3:16 pm

Does the flooding get any worse than in front of Westchester Elementary?   Nothing like hitting that pond at 40 mph!

Where is the worst street flooding in Decatur?  If you want to augment your claim with a photo, I’m happy to post ‘em here.

Last night I was trying to take my kids to DQ, and there was a puddle on Trinity between the lot behind Twain’s and the fire station. It was so deep that most people either did a u-turn, or like me, went through the parking lot behind Twain’s to exit onto Church St. (you should have heard the grumbling when I told my kids that we’d have to do DQ another time). The flooding in the Twain’s lot was pretty bad, too, and lots of water was rushing down Church St. and particularly down Maple St. (which runs between Church & N. McDonough). There was a police car stopped on Maple with its lights on, and it looked like maybe some people were trying to clear a drain. Maple St. looked pretty darn flooded.

Haven’t seen the flooding on Scott today…but I recall it can get pretty deep and cover the sidewalks.

Oh shoot decatur mom, you are totally right about that spot!

I remember having to turn around at that spot YEARS ago after seeing an SUV stalled out with water up to its doors!

Some idiot actually tried to drive down E Maple St and – guess what ? – got flooded out. His car was towed this morning.

Our rain gauge registered 2.5 inches in less than an hour.

I actually saw water pouring OUT of a storm drain today.

Guess what happened . . . it’s been raining a lot lately, with the rain flowing. Take it easy out there and quit complaining.

Yeah, driving on Ponce toward Decatur is always a joy when it’s pouring. It’s like driving up a waterfall. I feel like a salmon.

Who has time to take pictures? I’m white-knuckle on the steering wheel trying to discern where the curb is (much less the lane markers) and trying not to (light rain) hydroplane into oncoming traffic or (hard rain) drown.

        Good point.

But is it too much to ask if you find yourself drowning to pull out your cameraphone, snap a photo, type in “decaturite [at] gmail.com” and hit send?

Isn’t that why you bought the freakin’ thing in the first place?!

If drowning in a puddle, be sure to set your Facebook status accordingly: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10347498-2.html

Don’t say that- we just came out of a drought and our beautiful old trees need this rain!

Worst flooding? Might be my basement but I’m afraid to go down there to look.

I feel ya. We’ve now collected over 40 gallons of water from our garage between the wet-vac and a paltry garbage can

Not street flooding, but here is a link to pics of flooding at the Medlock Park baseball fields. It appears to now be the Kingdom of the Crawfish.

There is a white water river running by my house in Oakhurst. $5 for a raft ride; bring your own life vest.

As someone whose property is next to Medlock Park, I can attest that it’s pretty bad in the area. Wednesday night I had to park on the sidewalk and roll up my pants to wade through the water to my front door. They recently tore down some houses on Scott Circle to help with the floodplain and they put hay all over the properties, so now there’s hay all over the street.

Ha! This weather makes me a little homesick. I grew up in South Florida where a 6 inch rainfall was simply called “afternoon”.

With you there, Ridge. And you’re right…you could pretty much set your watch by the afternoon thunderstorms. Of course, I’ll never be homesick for South Florida, but that’s a whole different subject. Atlanta metro, and especially Decatur, owns my heart and soul now. :-)

My garage flooded for the first time in three years. Not to mention my convertible- there are puddles on my floorboard…..

When I left curriculum night at Winnona Park last night, I wished I’d brought an inner tube. Rafting down Inman Dr. would have been a much better way of getting to my car than walking through that mess. The little “crick” at the back of the WP field was rushing like the Nantahala.

I’m surprised more trees have not come down.

Is water drainage full maybe? I don’t know how drainage works but I don’t think our basement and outside the basement is clogged. I think the water can’t go anywhere fast.
