Suspect Arrested in McKoy Park Carjacking
Decatur Metro | August 19, 2009 | 3:59 pmChief Booker writes to DM and the community-at-large…
I am writing to our community today to share with you information in regards to our investigation into the carjacking/robbery that occurred on July 28, 2009. I wrote in my initial comment to the blog a few weeks ago that I hoped to be able to report the apprehension of the two individuals that were responsible. Your police department’s criminal investigations division has been working diligently in attempts to determine who committed this crime and I am proud to report the following:
The Decatur Police Department announces the arrest of one suspect in the recent carjacking incident on Adams Street. On Tuesday, August 19, 2009 members of the Decatur Police Department Criminal Investigation Division arrested 20 year old Kevias Jackson. Jackson was charged with Hijacking of a Motor Vehicle. An arrest warrant was obtained for a second individual, 18 year old Sharrod Willis. Both Willis and Jackson are residents of unincorporated DeKalb County. We are actively attempting to locate the second individual as we speak.
Like I reported before, our department at all levels takes crimes of this nature very seriously and I have to say that I am proud of the work the investigators have put forth to make this happen. It was just good old fashioned police work. Carjackings are very difficult to solve but our investigators helped to clear this case in a relatively short time.
Thanks for allowing me to post.

Excellent. And thank you for posting the follow-up, Chief Booker– plus props to the DPD (whom I hope know how much they’re appreciated).
Good news, Chief, with the usual excellent work by your Department. Props to all involved.
Excellent. Thank you Chief and members of DPD!
Thanks for the update and the good work!
Whatever happened to posting pictures of folks that were arrested so we could give them a wide berth when they get out of jail in 6 months.
Arrest photos for Dekalb are published daily on scandekalb.com and Dekalb OJS.
Good question…it may also help the public recognize ole Kevias & Sharrod for a number of recent unsolved crimes. For starters:
Police chase crash @ Commerce & EP
Pistol whipped mom w/ baby around Sycamore
Fellini’s robbery
You are saying that these two are responsible for all those crimes listed? If so, that’s a relief to have them identified and one of them arrested. Maybe I’m naive, but I feel confident that once you’ve been identified as a criminal, it’s just a matter of time before you slip up and are apprehended. Those crime shows I watched as a kid made a deep impression and I’ve always figured there’s no point in hiding–your day is coming and the suspense will eat at you.
No, I think he’s making the assumption that because they’re responsible for this one crime, they must be responsible for the other unsolved crimes of late. That’s a very dangerous assumption…
No CSD Mom, he was implying that they MIGHT be involved.
And to be frank, what exactly is “DANGEROUS” about assuming that two violent criminals MIGHT be involved in other violent crimes?
a) just because someone committed a crime in our area does not mean he committed all crimes in our area, and b) when he gets locked up that does not mean that crime stops.
Rusty’s comment made me bristle because I read it as though he were automatically pinning all recent crimes on these guys. Looking back, I see that he was merely suggesting they might be involved. I did read it slightly wrong.
Nope, not assuming anything. However, the assumed assumption is not dangerous, Kevias & Sharrod are.

Don’t worry, its’ all public record. You can find this stuff yourself at http://www.ojs.dekalbga.org
Thanks for the links, J_T. You post hadn’t shown up when I did mine.
That is (or maybe was) done by the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the jail. You’ll have to ask them about that.
Don’t worry, this guy will be back on the streets shoving guns in people’s faces again in no time. It’s discouraging to know that police officers do an incredible job to catch these ultra-violent perps and then judges drop charges or allow them to plead down and roam our streets again with impunity. Until our legal system takes recividism among violent offenders seriusly, we’ll see more and more of this.
That’s not really fair, Chris. This COULD be the time they send Kevias away for a while. In DeKalb County alone he’s racked up 2 felony and 2 misdemeanor convictions and is currently awaiting trial or otherwise has open 2 additional misdemeanor cases and three felony cases. Pretty good for a twenty-year old. Of course, it looks like he’s only sitting in jail on $5,500 total bond, so as soon as someone posts that for him he’ll be back out there!
Also found it curious that Chief Booker references a Tuesday August 19th arrest. The 19th was yesterday (Wednesday). Kevias has been in jail since August 4th (a Tuesday) on carjacking charges. Was this a typo by the chief or was Kevias arrested on a different carjacking and then linked to the Adams street incident afterwards?
Props to Chief Booker and ALL Decatur PD Officers. I know some of those fine men and women and they are highly trained, strictly screened, cream-of-the-crop law enforcement professionals. Everyone living in Decatur should be happy and proud of the fine work they do 24/7/365.
