Good boy (or girl) RTPHOA! There be some trollish geographers and home value protecting blue bloods around here who would have surely raised Cain had you described your address as “Decatur”. Unincorporated DeKalb outsiders gots to know their place, zip codes be damned!
The really crazy thing is that at both ends of the Katie Kerr, you end up in incorporated Decatur. Unincorp DeKalb property taxes make us all smile the whole way to baby Kroger et.al.
You can smile all the way to your 15 minute police response time also.
Great Comment! Made me smile all the way to my keyboard.
The “decatur is greater” snobbery on this board is getting so old. Not everyone can live in the city of decatur. Not everyone can afford to, or wants to, either.
+ one million.
In my case and I gather most others, the Decatur vs. postal decatur fixation is profoundly tongue-in-cheek. It’s etiology arose from one person’s temporary angst and mortification when the national press described a shooting at the Mcnair charter school in unincorporated Decatur as occurring at a City of Decatur school.
No, it’s been going on for years. Many remarks posted here are tongue-in-cheek, but some people get genuinely indignant about crime reports (or anything that could conceivably be thrown in their face at a cocktail party) that fail to distinguish between City of Decatur and unincorporated Dekalb County.
I guess I was late to the cocktail party on this one…
ISO: Professional resume advisor/writer.
I’m a marketing person at a large company who somehow found his way into an IT-oriented role, and I’d like to get back in to marketing. But my resume is too IT-centric, so I’d like some help completely redoing it.
Suggestions?

Can’t. Hardly. Wait.
One of my all-time favorite tunes! And, I agree, cant wait for some good Chinese food!
For all those Halloween lovers come out and see the L5P Halloween parade tomorrow at 4PM. It is one of the most bizarre parades you’ve ever seen.
On another note please share any really ghoulish Halloween decorations in the area that you may know of.
speaking of halloween, the emory organ program puts on a great show of spooky organ music for halloween. i believe it’s on wednesday this year. free admission and they even give out candy to the kids (of all ages)at the end.
The L5P parade is not tomorrow. It’s next Saturday. October 19. http://l5phalloween.com/
I think it is actually next Saturday. http://l5phalloween.com/
My Bad, thanks for the correction!
Oakhurst Arts & Music Festival is also tomorrow!
I was walking my dogs on the bike trail yesterday, and a bicyclist came up behind us very fast and whizzed by us within 1-2 feet of my chow mix. Here is my question: if my dog had responded by lunging and biting her – would I be at fault?
My dogs were on leash, we were on our side of the center line, and she gave no warning. My dogs are not the slightest bit people-aggressive, btw, but that doesn’t mean that they might not respond in a fearful or protective manner from being startled at close range.
(Please – not wanting to start another lengthy battle about bicyclists in general…just curious about liability in a case like this.)
Can’t say about liability, but common courtesy would dictate that the cyclist would give a verbal warning, blow a horn, bell, or something. Probably another inconsiderate cyclist that blew through the next stop sign they came to.
this is why i don’t like riding on bike trails. dogs on leashes, rollerbladers, kids on bikes that don’t necessarily hold their lines… all dangerous when riding a bike at around 20 mph. a lot of times it feels safer, at least from the cyclist’s point of view to just whiz by without a warning. the amount of time that the cyclist and the walker/dog/whatever are in close proximity is so short that i doubt a dog would have time to do anything but get startled. by the time they might try to bite, the cyclist would be several feet away. if one does give warning (orally, via a bell…), that may startle the dog before the cyclist is close and cause and issue. another aspect of that is we don’t know how a person will respond to the warning. some people will turn around, and maybe veer. some try to get out of the way, sometimes moving exactly where the bike is heading. and a lot of the time, people are so engrossed in the cell phone, or are listening to music with earbuds, and don’t hear the warning anyway.
moral of the story, if you’re on a bike and are going to be whizzing by people on the trail, take a gamble and ride on the road instead. significant differences in velocities are never good.
You definitely hit the nail on the head with your comments. I feel exactly the same way. Just whiz by, eventually if the dog owner doesn’t like getting startled by a rider they will start glancing periodically over their shoulder.
“eventually if the dog owner doesn’t like getting startled by a rider they will start glancing periodically over their shoulder.”
really?
at what interval do you recommend they glance?
my favorite rear approaching cyclists are those who announce, “coming up on your right!”. **no one** likes getting whizzed by too closely—neither walkers by cyclists, nor cyclists by drivers.
give space.
depends on the time of day and phase of the moon.

i would assume we’d use italics, bold, and all caps for those.
FWIW, cyclists (or anyone else) should be passing on the left, not the right.
For the same reasons, I don’t even like biking on the beltline on a weekday anymore (I could make it part of my commute, but I’ve skipped it). Too many speed differentials. I just stick to the road. I bike from Decatur to midtown daily, and the bike paths just slow me down or impede progress, for a variety of reasons.
“On your left” can have unintended consequences. With both dogs and children, when I yell “on your left” or honk my horn, I have seen them turn to the left and step into my path.
(related gripe: this morning I was biking the Freedom Parkway Path and this adult was walking down the middle with a TRIPLE WIDE stroller – I didn’t even know anyone makes those things)
fertility treatment is a hell of a drug
“significant differences in velocities are never good”
Neither are significant differences in mass. As my buddy Issac says, F=mA.
If I swerve to avoid someone on the path, I run off into grass. Swerve on the street and it’s a curb or a car.
Hit a person and it hurts, hit a car and you’re lucky if you’re still feeling the hurt.
true, but i find there’s less swerving to be done on the road.
The best thing is to call out, “On your left!” before you go by. It doesn’t startle anyone (human or canine) and lets the pedestrian/skater/dogwalker know where you’ll be coming from.
+1
Since we are doing the bike thing again- Dear crazy bike rider on the lime green bike in Decatur yesterday- running a red light with 4 lanes of traffic coming at you is probably not the best way to stay healthy and happy.
probably a non-CoD cyclist.
Yeah, the CoD cyclist would have had a couple of kids on the back.
Last time I tried that a dyslexic moved directly into my path.
I would just assume that anyone walking around here is either too dumb or too distracted to get it right, so I’d just yell out “On your OTHER left!”
That’s exactly what I was yelling as I ran her over.
I think the hazards of multi-use paths are good to keep in mind for drivers when they get angry at cyclists for not being on the path. I was (no joke) nearly run off the road by a DPW truck (and trailer) angry at me because I was not on the path that, at that time, had a good number of pedestrians (and dogs) on it.
If forced to use a MUP, I typically slow down quite a bit and try not to pass to closely to peds and their pets, but I also agree that a verbal warning is often more risky for passing. So, I may occasionally startle an oblivious pedestrian strolling down the middle of the path, but then, hey, if they didn’t take their half in the middle of the path, it wouldn’t be so startling.
I have given up and the ‘on you left’ thing.
I’ve found that only half of the people even know what it means. Half of those people who know don’t know what to do. Half of that half who know what it means and know what to do wind up not doing anything. Which leaves you the irritating dyslexic remainder who then move to their left.
I just ring my bell and let them figure out what to do so I have time to react.
+2
Yes, you are responsible for your dogs’ behavior in public. That’s why the Lord made leash laws.
But adult humans (a supposedly more intelligent species) on bicycles are not responsible for theirs? Interesting.
(Btw, neither of my dogs have ever lunged at any human, no matter how stupidly they were behaving. But I’m not quite as good-tempered as they are, so I was just fantasizing about what I wanted to do if I had been in their, um, paws.)
Pedestrians have the right of way on the trail, and yes, they are responsible for their dog’s actions. If someone has a hard time controlling their dog I’d suggest that a busy weekend might not be the best time to walk them. As a frequent rider on the Beltline I ride pretty slow and give everyone as wide a margin as I can so I can make adjustments quickly. I’ve had dogs lunge at each other on their leashes crossing me, kids riding all over the trail and cellphone walkers taking a quick left. Seems like every time I ring my bell or say “on your left” people turn left right into my path. Go slow and stay alert and everything should be a-OK.
My favorite is when baby doll’s reel-a-leash is stretched across the street as I turn the corner.
Excited about DHS Homecoming tonight– parade, chili, game! Go Bulldogs!
Has the Icelandic gaming company moved from Duluth to Decatur into their big downtown space yet? If not, is that still on? Just curious.
Oh yeah — I think they’ve been here 1+ year. They have several floors in the Wells Fargo building at Ponce and Candler.
They have the entire 7th floor including a cool in-house cafeteria.
Glad to hear it. I remember hearing a while back that they ended up having to lay off a bunch of people and thought it heralded that the Decatur office wasn’t going to happen generally. So nice to know they’re up there.
Just wanted to give a shout out to the Hop ‘n Shop. I’ve made fun of that place in the past, but those guys have stepped up their game and really adjusted to the changing neighborhood. They’ve now got an entire aisle of wine, a really good beer selection (I bought a couple 4 packs of the new Three Taverns releases), and are more family friendly – the porn magazines are out of sight and they had Highlights magazine on the rack.
They are also far more reliable than Family Dollar for those quick trip needs like eggs, milk, half-n-half. Family Dollar is basically worthless – two aisles of food and basics that are often understocked, and several other aisles of crap.
It was sad to hear the Candler Park Market wasn’t coming to the area, but between Oakhurst Market and the improved Hop ‘n Shop we pretty much covered anyway.
They still make porn magazines?
Hop ‘n Shop has been really really good to me.
Hop ‘n Shop sucks. They keep selling me losing lottery tickets. Customer service, my butt!!
Don’t go to Shield’s Market. The luck is no better.
Agree! The Hop and Shop has come a long way! Great service!
Nice review on the Kimball House and it’s not behind a paywall… http://blogs.ajc.com/food-and-more/2013/10/11/first-look-at-kimball-house/
I *loved* the drinks and the beautiful build-out but wish there were more small plates for eating at the bar. (We did try the $17 (?) broccoli though.)
We’re giving Kimball House a try tomorrow. Any recommendations for non-oyster lovers?
went opening night and tasted about half the menu. everything was excellent. sweatbreads were great. the lamb sausage was amazing. potato dumplings as well. mussels might have been my favorite thing. i pretty sure you can’t go wrong with anything.
I went last week and had the mackerel with salad and lobster mushrooms (John Kessler mentions it in his review). It was beyond delicious!
There’s some kind of baked crisp chicken dish that, unlike it’s title, is superb. I didn’t know chicken could be that good. It comes with spinach and other vegetables, again tastier than I ever thought possible. Daquiri was fantastic. Only downside of the place on the night that we were there was that the clientele were uniformly cutting edge attractive, even the men. We felt a little dumpy and definitely old. We did see one woman who was older than us but she appeared to be related to a cutting edge attractive younger couple.
That’s why we like to go to the hip places early. 5 pm on a Saturday doesn’t tend to feature your cutting edge attractive types.
Yeah, that was our mistake, thinking that Monday night was the equivalent of 5 PM. Kimball House reminded me of Manhattan–no off nights. I’m grateful to Kimball House and Pinewood Lounge for being open on Monday nights but I gotta remember to make sure I’ve got good ego strength that day before dropping into the Kimball House.
Thank you. We appreciate you keeping your distance. It’s hard to be beautiful when you’re surrounded by the wrong types of people.
Okay, we finally tried it out tonight and regardless of how cutting edge and attractive we are, I still would like to throttle whoever had the idea to use grey type on grey paper for the menu. My older eyes had to work double-time to bring that thing into focus. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed the Kimball House. My oysters were fantastic, my wife’s salad was top notch, and we split the trout which was excellent. I thought it sounded a bit odd that the trout would come with gnocchi but it really worked for us. Lastly, the cocktails are first rate and the service (we ate at the bar) was friendly and attentive. For those who are crowd averse, Sunday night around 7:00 worked out perfectly and we were seated at the bar immediately. Table would have only been about 20 minute wait if we had chosen that. Oh, one more thing…for a place that has only been open for barely two weeks, they really have things dialed in nicely.
Re menu type: Yeah, that’s why I blurted out “Um, I’ll have the chicken” having no idea that I’d just ordered a fantastic, rather than just a safe, choice. Since that visit, I’ve resolved to buy one of those tiny powerful flashlights to keep in my purse at all times. Barely visible type in a darkly lit room with aging eyes is a challenge. But I think it’s part of that edgy attractive thing–if your eyes aren’t up for the challenge, you don’t belong there.
Just got home from an anniversary dinner here and I have to tell you, it was EXCELLENT across the board.
First off, Miles’s cocktails are insanely good. The man really knows his stuff.
The food was top notch – I know you said your not an oyster lover, but these are absolutely the best I have had in Atlanta. Super fresh, and the variety is incredible. Also had the roasted broccoli (insanely good), striped bass collar (really, really yum) and the wife had the mushroom fricassee with pasta. All outstanding.
These guys are neck-in-neck with Cakes and Ale for the best food in Decatur, and just a really fun vibe.
Can you tell I liked it? (And no one would accuse either my wife or I of being “cutting edge attractive”
I’m having the hardest time finding an after school program with any openings. Does anyone have any suggestions? It seems like divining water trying to find a spot.
City of Decatur Schools? The Decatur Rec doesn’t even have space at the Rec Center location? First Baptist doesn’t have spots either? Wow. Color Wheel has always had years-long waits. But Decatur Rec and First Baptist are standbys and it’s amazing if they are both wait list only. There’s also a music program and an outdoor program but they’re real popular and maybe full. Isn’t there a new science after school program run by Ms. Thorton-Webb, former RMS science teacher, or is that still in the works?
Never used the YMCA but it used to have a poor reputation. Never heard one way or the other about the Boys and Girls Club.
Camp Scene?
Hey- I spotted my name! Woohoo- love that!
I have Tues/Thurs afternoon STEM (science technology engineering mathematics) classes at The Lutheran Church. Kids take the CSD bus right over- until 5:00 p.m. We have hands-on, engaging lab activities mixed with outdoor play.
We also have STEM camps during the upcoming Nov. 5 teacher workday, Thanksgiving, and December holidays. (And of course- summer camp, but no one’s thinking about that yet. Except me.)

I am moving to a 750 sf condo in the Decatur/Emory area. Looking for a general contractor that can handle all the phases of a Condo remodel; permitting, demo, build-out, painting. The HOA has a list of dos and don’ts that control the work process so as not to be a pain-in-the-#$&
to my new neighbors. Totally understandable…..I’d want that as well. Would prefer a team that has experience in Condos. Any recommedations would be appreciated! Thanks
Amy– It’s mighty odd that you haven’t gotten any recommendations or “who to avoids” for two weeks in a row… makes me kinda wonder if it’s because of the “handle the permitting” part! ;0)
A sure sign that it’s fall is that the WABE pledge drive is about to crank up again. Time for your favorite programs to be interrupted by interminable pleas for donations and the same tired old prerecorded pitches by the “celebrity” national figures, even though you’ve already made your pledge. (You HAVE made your pledge, right?)
Strike back by casting your vote now for “Most Annoying Public Radio Personality”. Who drives you nuts? Is it Scott Simon’s laugh? The Tappet Brothers’ corny jokes? My vote — and it’s not even close — goes to Garrison Keillor. His whole “Look at me — I’m so folksy yet so literate” schtick just makes me want to scream. Even though PHC often does present musical acts I’d enjoy, he annoys me so much I can’t stand to listen to it anymore. And whoever told that man he could sing?
Who do you love to hate? Vent here and maybe the pledge breaks will be a little more tolerable.
And BTW, Roy Blount Jr. is off limits — he’s a home boy.
At least we don’t get that incredibly annoying “Whaddya Know” guy. Look up obnoxious in the dictionary and you’ll find a picture of him.
I could really do without Terry Gross and Fresh Air. She gets great guests but she asks questions that are designed to show how clever Terry Gross is.
I’ve said it here before. Garrison Keillor should pack it in. It’s the same stuff, week after week, and he p*sses me off by singing poorly with guests who sing a lot better than he does.
On the plus side, WABE has really stepped it up with local talent in the past few years. We should really be thankful for on-air folks like Steve Goss, Dennis O’Hayer, Kate Sweeney, and John Lemley. Of course, there’s the problem of Lois Reitzes. I would contribute more to WABE if they would occasionally make her take a hit off a helium tank during her show.
Despite the fact that his Saturday night Jazz Classics programming is mired immovably in piano jazz of the late 50’s and early 60’s, I dig H Johnson because there ain’t no other place on terrestrial Atlanta radio you can hear that kind of stuff and I’m glad he’s now got a Friday night blues show.
Whoa, dude! Terry Gross? Maybe it’s just my Philly roots coming through, but damn. Shut yo stupid mouth!
Lois Reitzes, on the other hand…
Have you seen the promo that Lois Reitzes has done for Adult Swim?
No. And I’m scared to google it now.
They also have one by Flip Spiceland.
I am cracking my husband- and myself- up doing the Lois Reitzes helium voice. Monday morning at 9:06 my usual groan will be replaced by giggles.
If Krista Tippett and Lois Reitzes were to co-host a show I would doubly not listen to it.
My wife does a great Lois Reitzes imitation. She puts marbles in her mouth and says “This is second cuppppppp at Dubba U…..A……B……E.” It is starangely exciting.
What?! Terry Gross is one of the best interviewers in the business, with a nearly perfect radio voice. But I agree with you and others about Garrison Keillor. I can’t stand that faux folksie, old timey crap. It’s like some sort of entertainment version of Cracker Barrel, but for liberals.
I’ll take Bob Edwards over Terry Gross any day.Terry’s happiest when an interviewee says “What a great question” or when the interviewee simply agrees with what she’s said instead of actually having a question to answer.
I don’t like pledge drives. I wish WABE was more like public radio stations elsewhere and provided a wider selection of music and programming. And if it has arranged some kind of monopoly that prevents us from listening to other public radio stations, that’s wrong. But I think you all are too hard on Garrison Keillor. It feels sacrilegious. For me, Prairie Home Companion plays the role that The Lawrence Welk Show played for my grandparents–always providing familiar material that you can count on. And if you don’t like it, you can change your radio dial……..whoops, you can’t. Unless you’ve got satellite radio or whatever that is. Well, I still say you shouldn’t be mean-spirited about PHC.
My objection to Lawrence Welk, although I could not have articulated it as a child when I was subjected to it EVERY Saturday night, was exactly that: “always providing familiar material that you can count on.” That’s what my 200+ audio cassette collection from the ’70s-80s is for. Public radio, which I’m happily paying for (whether or not I donate individually), should be striving for a bar that’s a little bit higher than that.
I still don’t know how we can’t get the best show on NPR, The Diane Rehm Show, in a larger market like this. I download her podcast. And while I like classical, killing the news at 9 is lame. I’d love it they started playing an our of Hearts of Space to quell everyone’s road rage. I feel like Atlanta can do better than WABE. Glad 106.7 came along, that’s what I flip to if I’m in the car at 9.
“I still don’t know how we can’t get the best show on NPR, The Diane Rehm Show, in a larger market like this.” — +10 You can listen to her while driving back from the Panhandle beaches, while traversing what is in most other ways the back side of East Podunk. But you can’t listen here in The Big City.
Lynne Rossetto Kasper from The Spendid Table gets on my last nerve fairly regularly. It’s something about her voice and the overly enthusiastic ‘Ooh, ooh, what if you did…” that is annoying to me.
Click and Clack from Car Talk can be a guilty pleasure at times for me. I got no exlpanation. What can I say?
She nearly always manages to come across as patronizing in her conversations with callers, which is very off-putting. And she’s often obsequious with chefs and other culinary professionals during interviews. But content-wise, I think it’s a great show. And I love hearing what the road-food couple have to share; their on-air demeanors are a bit annoying, but less so than the host’s!
Did you know that Jane and Michael Stern have been divorced for five years?
Click and Clack should be required listening for people who take the wrong things too seriously.
What is the recipe for the green sauce at Las Brasas? Anyone? What is it called? I need to put it on a skirt steak and pronto.
Ahi Verde sauce
http://www.traegergrills.com/recipes/detail/237#.Uli2ufF5mK0
If you google “Peruvian green sauce” you will get some good hits. I can’t post any here or I’ll go to moderation purgatory.
google “chimichurri sauce recipe”
No, my beloved Las Brasas green sauce isn’t chimichurri. Chimichurri is great, but the green sauce is creamier, smoother and addictive.
ok, further research indicates it may be “salsa de huacatay”
Goddammit, were you at Trackside earlier today when I was discussing this very thing?
wow, what a great win for the Decatur Bulldogs.
when the Holy Trinity team took the field it looked like the Monsanto Titans vs. the Decatur Organic Shrimp. we were outnumbered and outsized, and it seemed like over half our team was playing both ways.
our guys showed tons of heart in coming back and outlasting what appeared to be a better team at the beginning of the game.
for me the key moment in the game was when my 1st grade cheerleading daughter took the field to do the Bulldog Rumble —she stopped, dropped, and rumbled, and that pretty much cinched it.
congrats all around.
After years of saying we should, my husband and I went to our first DHS football game- and what an exciting game! But where are the legendary brats sold? We weren’t looking in the right place.
Bratwurst and burgers are sold at the DBB concession stand which is at the NE corner of the field (visitor side/gym end)
And I should have added you should come more often. That was probably our biggest win in 10 years and cracks open the door to the state playoffs. Has been a while since we’ve been there.
Thanks RJ. Couldnt make it but glad the Bulldogs won. I’m sure this made the homecoming dance a real partay rather than a wake.
Funny that the noise from the big win did not make it over to the Glen Lake Park area. Normally the “Golden Voice” of Coach Anderson, the big sound of Mrs. Williams world famous marching Two Hundred, and screams of drill team members and cheerleaders “Shake Your Bootay” make it to my house.
I wonder, does this have anything to do with the evil _______ (fill in the blank) responsible for the government shutdown?
The People’s Republic of Decatur is featured in today’s AJC Metro Focus: Squaring off over shutdown.
http://www.ajc.com/news/news/state-regional/squaring-off-over-shutdown/nbLDk/
Thanks Cher and AH. I missed this article. Interesting reading.
“They just don’t want the law,” said Kanaiya, an art student. “If they don’t want to follow the law, they don’t need to be in office.”
Well then Obama — who suspended the employer mandate without any legal authority to do so — should step down. He clearly is not following the law. And that’s just one of the lawless waivers/delays he’s granted as the rollout of this ridiculous law continues to expose the federal government as utterly incompetent. I mean, everyone’s signed up on the “exchange” and received their “cheap” insurance, correct? Ha!
Fair and balanced as usual. Excellent.
I have spent some time in China. Your Maoist reference to Decatur is totally misguided. There are no trees in Beijing for miles. They love destroying nature there.
I am a moderate free market guy, but the slash and burn clearance of the lot across the street made me sad.
A family of Red tail hawks lived in the big oak they cut down. I will miss watching them circle and hunt my yard for vermin. Im sure the house will be much better than before. Its all a trade off.
The reference was the AJC’s, not AHID’s.
Yes, I have been known to call Decatur “Mayberry meets Berkeley” or, lately, “Mayberry meets Scarsdale” or “Mayberry meets Marin County”, but never the People’s Republic of anything. That was the AJC contrasting people hanging out on our square vs. Marietta’s.
Thanks Ww. By the way, any chance you’re related to that other Dubbya? If so, tell your famous relative that I always wanted to visit the ranch in Crawford and would love an invitation.
I have used the term Peoples Republic of Decatur (or something similar) before and have seen its use on this blog. The sad fact (for me anyway) is that outside of Decatur, especially in the suburbs and rural areas of the state, and even in South DeKalb, I hear much worse than the Peoples Republic to describe our fair city. Some of these terms have been used in DM posts only to be quickly removed. Now I know that our city receives many policy awards, and our restaurants and bars are the best, but I think many Georgians find our ways strange.
I too am mourning the loss of nearby trees. The property owner across the street took down two large trees earlier this week and did not consult me in advance (I should have put the last seven words in all caps to represent indignation). Being a strong believer in private property rights, I didn’t expect a consultation but with all the hoopla about tree removal last week, I thought I would at least get a warning, “The oak that has shaded your front yard for the last seventy years, and defined your street in many ways, is coming down because well, it’s dead, even though it might provide you and the neighborhood birds a few more years of enjoyment.” And judging by the orange ribbons rapped around nearby trees, I suspect that many more will come down before the moratorium goes into effect. But because my neighbor is a powerful developer, she (but it could be a he but I strongly doubt it) doesn’t have to go through the same bureaucratic mess most small homeowners have to.
But back to your original complaint. Do you remember that song from the late Sixties, something like “…Power to the People! (Drum beat) Power to the People right on!” The real power in Decatur belongs to my neighbor, who is growing more and more powerful every day.

Patch reports arrest of 18 year old responsible for September robbery attempt at the East Lake MARTA station.
Word is, he was still in possession of the weapon!
His punishment should be the permanent confiscation of the weapon.
He was just exercising his right to bare arms.
I had to read the original report to get these quips. Very funny, you guys.
Anybody have a recommended roofer? Our roof still has some life in it, but a couple of shingles have come loose, and I’d like to get the whole thing looked over.
We just used Keith Roberts at robertsroofinginc.com
They did a great job!
Thanks very much!
Sorry for the late reply, have not read DM for a bit.
I will only let Russell Kirn on my roof, he is great! 404 561 5942. His crew put on our roof (shingles on main house, metal on back porch) and he came back this summer (3 years later) to personally repair the small hole the neighbors tree branch speared over the garage…no charge. I was totally expecting a fee for that. ++++
Patch is reporting that two teens were robbed on the Square late last night. More of an old school (pre July 2013) late night Square robbery with no weapon produced, Actually a cab driver did something similar to me once in Italy, pre-euro, ages ago–while I was fumbling with the unfamiliar currency in units of ten thousands, he grabbed some extra, and drove off.
Of note to the City of Decatur purists, Patch identified the teen victims as “DeKalb County” which I assume means non-City of Decatur teens. Stereotype reversal: unincorporated DeKalb teens being victimized in big, bad Downtown Decatur, by adults not 15 year olds, no weapon.

I got nothin’
“I got nothin’”
Better you be spending your time thinking up a suitable apology to smalltowngal for your @%# question.
Are those abiding in “postal” Decatur just hunters or just gatherers?
Either way it explains the dearth of proper watering holes.
