Want to Rent DHS Stadium?

January 13, 2010 | 9:39 am

On Monday, the school board updated facility and grounds use fees effective January 1, 2010.

Assistant Superintendent Thomas Van Soelen points to the last item on the school board’s agenda for an answer to the question, “How much did the Tennesee Volunteers pay the Decatur school system for use of the DHS field?”

An attachment included with the item gives the breakdown of fees to rent DHS stadium…

Field/Stadium Usage Fees

  • $200 per hour without scoreboard use
  • $250 per hour with scoreboard use Minimum: $200 Maximum: $2,500 per day (12 hours per day) Maximum: $15,000 per week (12 hours per day, seven days)
  • $75 per hour for field lights in addition to field use fee
  • $225 for each lining of the field in addition to field use fee

Van Soelen states “Tennessee was charged nearly that amount…”

And for those of us with grand plans of renting out the new auditorium for non-school events, check out auditorium rental fees after the jump…

High School Auditorium

$150 per hour includes one required technician; plus $80 fee for technician set up and breakdown; $50 per hour for each additional technician Minimum: $230 Maximum: $2,000 per day (12 hours per day, 2 technicians)

In other words, the venue fee for the outdoor performance of “Decatur Metro: The Musical!” will be $550.

Wouldn’t the stadium be a cool place for a summer wedding, scoreboard, lights, and all! Is sound system included? The whole town could hear your cousin singing “All You Need is Love”

Once this whole Eddie & Agnes thing has gotten too big for its current home can we start having concerts in the football stadium? I remember seeing the Stones at Soldier Field – surely we could get Drivin N Cryin to play Decatur High (thus keeping everything to scale).

But then they’d have to come up with a whole new name for it!

Considering how much fun I’m having with this right now, how about “Daren and Eddie tear their hair out”.

Have you ever seen the Blue Ridge Mountains, boy? Or the Chattahoochie?

Little known fact: Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle played at the DHS stadium. I think it was around the ’96 Olympics. Am I dreaming this?

Maybe we can have a series of concerts “Eddie and Spike”!
