Santa Appearances Around Decatur/Atlanta – Between Now and Christmas

    Decatur Metro | December 17, 2014 | 12:59 pm

    santakudzu

Didn’t nab tickets for Decatur’s now-sold-out Breakfast with Santa this year?

Aside from the oft-heralded Santa who resides at North DeKalb Mall, there are likely many other scheduled Santa sightings at area businesses and at other locations around Decatur and Atlanta and between now and December 25th.

To kick things off, Kudzu Antiques sent along info announcing their Santa event this coming Sunday, along with the photo above.

    Santa’s coming to Kudzu Antiques

    Sunday, Dec. 21. 1-5pm. Free.
    Live music, refreshments.
Great fun for families of all ages!
2928 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur.

Please mention any other upcoming Santa appearances in the comments section below and I’ll try to update this post a couple of times this afternoon, so we have a more complete list.

“Press Release, Decatur 12/13/14: In order to aid the City of Decatur’s firefighters  safe passage onto Trinity Street, tonight while the children in the City of Decatur were all asleep Elfie painted the street. It’s true, go see for your Elves!”

This is a much more believable explanation of what’s up on Trinity than the one provided by the Decatur Minute on Thursday.  :-)

Donate a Winter Coat or Non-Expired Food at Decatur Fire Stations This Holiday Season

    Decatur Metro | December 10, 2014 | 2:06 pm

    From Commissioner Patti Garrett’s blog…

The City of Decatur and Dekalb County have 2,100 homeless school age children and their families who are in need this winter. We are asking for your help to assist individuals in need this season. Please donate non-expired food items or a winter coat. The City of Decatur Fire Department will be collecting items until December 19.  All items will go to Decatur Cooperative Ministries as they help families who face homelessness settle into safe, stable homes.

DCM offers comprehensive services helping to prevent, endure, and overcome homelessness. Drop off items at either of the City of Decatur Fire Stations (230 East Trinity Place or 356 West Hill St.), the Decatur Recreation Center (231 Sycamore St.), or City Hall (509 N. McDonough St.).

For more information you may call Captain Violante at 678-553-6583 or Decatur Cooperative Ministries at 404-377-5365.

Decatur Christmas Tree Lighting This Thursday Night at 7pm

    Decatur Metro | December 3, 2014 | 12:47 pm

Dave at Little Shop sends along this announcement…

We hope to see you on East Court Square Thursday at 7 p.m. for one of Decatur’s most wonderful annual traditions. It might be 60 degrees tomorrow night, but it’s still time for the Decatur Tree Lighting! Little Shop of Stories and other local businesses are kicking off the holiday season with carols from the 4/5 Academy, snacks, hot chocolate, snow, and a visit from Santa!!! This year, there will at least one exciting change — a customized light installation to replace the live tree. This tree-shaped installation will still sit on the roof above Little Shop of Stories and will be a more sustainable, workable option for future years.

Thanks to all the local businesses who helped make this possible this year: 17 Steps, Appolinsky & Associates, Café Alsace, Cakes & Ale, The Cooks Warehouse/Sherlock’s, Decatur Downtown Development Authority, Fabu Spa, Greene’s Fine Foods, Harry Norman Realtors, Homegrown, Leon’s Full Service, McCurdy & Candler, Mudhouse Design, My Own Bookkeeper, Private Bank of Decatur, Salon Red, Salon Red Kids, Squash Blossom, Starbucks,Steinbeck’s Ale House, Universal Joint, Verisail Partners, Vivid Boutique, Wild Oats & Billy Goats, J.M. Wilkerson Construction, and Worthmore Jewelers.
